Our first Airbnb Experience

When ever we make a trip back home to Pakistan we try to take a little side trip on the way back home.. some time being just the four of us before heading back to the grind. Last time we choose to spend a few days in Turkey. This time after much consideration we choose Denmark.

We flew into Copenhagen in the morning and made our way to our Airbnb.. yes we got an Airbnb. Our first ever! Now before I get into our trip I wanted to talk a bit about Airbnb. I am curious about others who have used it and what their experiences were like.

Initially I looked into traditional hotels but they all seemed too expensive, too small to comfortably fit four or too far. We were looking for something with good walk-ability. And when nothing seemed to fit the bill I widened the search. The Airbnb website was pretty easy to use and while I had looked into the idea of getting an Airbnb a few times before we had never actually booked one. I looked at a few apartments, sent a few messages and then we had one picked..

It was the perfect little apartment, the location could not have been better and it was exactly what we had needed to make our trip perfect.

Would we use it again? Yes if the need arose but it would not be our first choice. I would always begin my search by looking at traditional hotels. Why? I have small children and I don't want to have to constantly worry that they will accidentally break or damage something in someone else's home. It was an old building with thin walls, I had to shush the boys repeatedly. When on vacation I don't want to have to make the beds or cook. I.. we like to come back to our rooms tired from exploring and finding everything magically tidied up.

But for this particular trip this was just what we needed.. more about the trip coming soon. I promise. I just have so many pictures!!

  1. Never heard of that, but then I'm not exactly a jetsetter. :)
Seems like a good option to have though.

You are adventurous! I've never stayed in one before. Honestly, I wouldn't feel comfortable. Do ppl lock up stuff they don't want strangers to see or get into? That crossed my mind when a knitting blogger mentioned possibly she was getting her house ready for that.

    1. I think it would depend on the host. I didn't see any valuables lying around, there were toys and books and a computer full of movies which we did use on occasion especially to help wind the kids down after a crazy day..

Oh and don't feel bad about your reading progress. A mother's life is so full of many things that it can be hard to choose one hobby to focus upon especially when you're traveling or have little ones.

    1. I know.. I'm often grateful to even be able to find the time to read. I know so many friends who used to be avid readers and now they haven't touched a book in years.

  4. I've looked several times at them, but still back away just because it's someone's home. Part of me thinks it's such a great idea, but hotels have less to worry about as you said. I'm so glad you took the plunge on it and it worked out well. The idea of having a kitchen is nice when traveling, especially with kids!

    1. I agree.. it's the worry that was my biggest concern.

  5. Sounds like it's best for those not with kids--and I totally get your reasoning why. I've never done the air bnb route before.

  7. I have been very curious about what people who have actually tried airbnb think of it. I would love to try it someday, but maybe when the boys are a little older. I would definitely be worried about what they were going to break too. I loved reading your little review on it.

  8. Thanks for sharing your Airbnb experience, Hena! As someone with young kids, I've always wondered how the experience would be like. My kids and I are the clumsiest people, so this is probably something we will shy away from unfortunately.

  9. The apartment you stayed in does look nice and sounds convenient but I get totally where you're coming from about not wanting to cook or tidy up while vacation.

  10. I've never used Airbnb, but I find the concept intriguing. The apartment looks really nice :)

  11. It is always harder to vacation with kids, isn't it? lol! Been there! I can totally see what you mean. I can't wait to hear more about the trip!

  12. I can understand why you wouldn't want to have to keep on quieting your children, though air bnb sounds as though it was a great alternative on this occasion! My fingers are crossed for you to find a nice traditional hotel next time you make the trip!! :)

  14. my daughter and husband has used air b and b twice, for their honeymoon and for their apartment search in Santa Barbara. Both times it worked out well. I'm not as adventurous and I go the traditional route meaning hotels. But I'm old (ish) and set in my way of thinking!!

  15. I'm glad you had a good AirBNB experience. I've never tried it myself, but I would have the same worries about messing up someone else's house. I also like coming back to a tidy hotel room :).

  17. Oh Denmark is on my list of places I must go ... I look forward to your post about your trip!

I've never stayed at an Airbnb but plan to try one sometime because the concept is really good. However, I'm with you ... It is very nice to come home to a tidied up space.

  18. I like Airbnb because you get more space with less money. With kids, I like more space!

  19. I have never experienced this before, but my travels usually take me within the U.S. and I imagine that is why.
I would love to go to Denmark!

  20. We have used HomeAway which is very similar. I love it! I love having a kitchen to cook our meals in while traveling so we don't always have to eat out!

  24. We used airbnb for our trip early in the year and had no problems with it. It ended up being far more cheaper and convenient for us, especially since it came with a parking spot. Having to make the beds is annoying and so is having to cook or go out for food if you can't be bothered leaving the room!

  25. I can't wait to try an air bnb one day! The one you stayed in looks very cozy! Food for thought on the breaking of things with kids, I'm surprised there aren't more out there that advertise as "kid friendly" without breakables inside? haha
