Pumpkins and Leaves

Image
We are half way through October and it has been busy.  School, sports and other extra curriculars will our weekdays and the weekends just fly by. Last weekend we swung by a local pumpkin patch.. D wanted a white pumpkin this year. And since last weekend was a long weekend M took Monday off and we went for a hike. D's friend joined us. We drove up to northern New Jersey, close to the Del-Water Gap and hike the 2.5 mile red dot trail up Mount Tammany. The weather was perfect and the hike was great. Lots of rocks to climb over.. The kids loved it..  The mountain you see across the water is Mount Minsi, Pennsylvania.   Look at all the beautiful mushroom's we found! The leaves we're really at peak color yet.. oh well.  On the way down we followed the blue dots which led us to Dunnfield Creek Falls                    Etsy             Instagram             ...

What is STEM? New Snapology Franchise in New Jersey

Image
Have you heard of STEM? Of course you have.. it's the new hot word.. I see it all over Pinterest, over the past few months I have been saving all these interesting posts.. collecting activities for the summer months and then lo and behold I hear about a new Snapology STEM program open a few counties over. I spent some more time reading up about the subject, most of the websites provide vague explanations.. until I stumbled upon We Are Teachers , this website is perfect. It breaks down the subject in an easy to understand language and shows how anyone.. especially teachers can incorporate STEM into all aspects of learning. Another definition I found and really liked was 'STEM makes creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors.'  It's the education of the future. Schooling a Monkey  is also a great resource for easy to do at home STEM activities.   D had created this Lego maze a few years ago. Didn't even realize we w...

New Jersey's Grounds for Scultpure

Image
With D's Kindergarten year coming to an end their class decided to visit the Ground of Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. I had been meaning to check it out for sometime now so I was excited when I found out it was going to be a family trip. We left H at home with the grandparents.. and though we arrived late D had an exam at his Saturday Islamic school that he couldn't skip :( We stayed even after everyone left and I'm already thinking we need to plan another visit sometime in fall. If you have never been to a sculpture park you must add it to you list of things to do.. Now get ready for a ton of pictures!                            Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin

Birthday Getaway

Image
As most of you may know we had planned a little kid free getaway in December for our anniversary that didn't exactly go as planned. So when our birthdays rolled around.. happened to fall on a weekend.. and my mom was visiting an impromptu getaway seemed perfect. Not wanting to venture too far away from home we picked a cute little bed and breakfast about an hour away. We started my birthday on Saturday with breakfast at home with the family and then headed to the mall for some shopping. We hardly ever get a chance to go to the mall.. and it is even rarer to get an opportunity to go without the kids. We have become online shoppers.. So in a mall.. we hardly knew what to do.. and so instinct took over and we ended up shopping for the boys.. Boy do we suck at this pampering ourselves business. Without the filters of online shopping it seemed a bit mind boggling to scan the racks.. but we didn't not give up till we both bought at least one item for ourselves. The word LOSERS! co...

Digger Land

Image
After all that adventuring without the kids we thought we'd have a family fun day.. I had been meaning to check out Digger Land for over a year.. it is New Jersey's very own construction themed amusement park..  All the rides were quite simple.. the main attraction was of course getting to ride and or sit behind the wheel of these massive machines.. D was ecstatic.. M and my brother got a kick out of it too.. unfortunately H was barely allowed to sit on one ride.. it was a great way to spend a couple of hours..                            Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin

Zip Lining, River Rafting and Other Adventures

Image
The first week of August M began his one month non compete leave and being the planners that we.. I am, we had a certain set expectations of what this month was to be.. we wanted to have fun, we wanted to relax, we wanted to get back on top of things with our list of never ending errands, we wanted to spend some time with family.. we wanted to spend some time without the kids.. just us.. we needed some adult time.. and now weeks after M has gone back to work and we are back to our regular routines I can look back and saw that we had a kick ass month that lived up to everything we had hoped to get out of it and more! We kicked it off with a trip to the Poconos with my brother and sister in law, leaving the kids at home with grandparents. I signed us up for a Zip Lining 3 Hour Adventure Course at the Skytop Lodge in the Poconos. This was the first time any of us had zip lined and it was awesome.. the course itself was crazy awesome.. there was four levels of obstacles.. perfect way to...

Dinosaur Park

Image
Last weekend we took D to Field Station: Dinosaurs a very tame, toddler friendly Jurassic Park minus the real dinosaurs and all the bloodshed. And when I say toddler friendly I mean it.. anyone over the age of ten may have been bored. The dinosaurs made noises.. and moved a very small amount but for a three year old it was very real. In fact our very first dinosaur was a pointed toothed carnivore roaring at a startled D. After a while he warmed up to a few herbivores.. even roared back as long as mommy was near by.. but by the time we got to dino number 6 he too seemed to be less interested. Not really worth the $25 adult admission.
