Exploring San Diego

Let's take a step back into August, when we got on to a red eye and headed to San Diego. A few days prior to our departure we learnt that a hurricane was heading to San Diego and planning on hitting us while we were there. :(  M and I have a new motto in life.. we say it often enough.  We rented a car and headed to our hotel. We stayed at the Omni San Diego Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. The hotel was very nice (travel tip - find out what your hotels parking policy is) The parking per night was $40 but if you spent a few extra minutes and didn't mind walking you could find free street parking as it was the weekend, there was also an abundance of parking garages in the area charging half on the cost. So M dropped us off with the bags while he found parking. Staying in that neighborhood was hands down our best decision! It was a party area.. a bit loud but when a hurricane is headed your way you want to be in a lively area where restaurants will dare to stay open. But before we g...

It was Sunday night and the wind had began to rattle our windows, the red leaves flew off our big tree that was just moments ago full. We tried to get dinner on the table early, before we 'god forbid' lost power. The lights flickered and it was dark and within moments it returned.. relief. We hurried to the table and it went dark again only to return. We were midway into our dinner went it went dark again.. this time power did not return. So we ate a bite or two, out appetites lost. We put D to sleep and watched the our now naked tree, the street abandoned and dark, the rain pummeling the ground. And then, while we watched, it happened. A big black monster flew out from behind our home and fell onto our wires. It reminded M and I of a dementor (oh how I miss Harry Potter). It wasn't long before the police arrived and a fire truck. They inspected the area, located two car owners and had their cars removed from the area and then they tied yellow tape around our house. We...
