The Boys Make Some Art

Image
Since even before we started working on the boys rooms I had wanted to do this with them. I had bought the canvas' at Micheals and waited for the perfect warm sunny summer day because there was no way I was going to set H loose in the house with paint. What's interesting is how their personalities are perfectly depicted in their painting style :)                           Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin

In My Attic

Image
I have been meaning to write this post for quite some time. Remember when I told you we ventured up into our attic only to find a whole bunch of crap along with a few interesting surprises. I didn't want to just post a bunch of pictures for you, I wanted to know more about our new finds and share with you a little history. These first two paintings are oil on canvas reproductions French painter Maurice Utrillo who specialized in cityscapes. By the age 21 Utrillo suffered from mental illness and alcoholism, he was encouraged to paint by his artist mother and it was painting that helped him deal if not overcome his illness. Both paintings are of the Montmarte area of Paris where he was born and raised. Another painting we found lacked a signature so it was harder to identify. After much googling I discovered it is called The Hay Wain by English painter John Constable. Born in Suffolk he is known primarily for his landscapes mostly of Dedham Vale, where he lived, now kn

Kitchen and Family Room: Painting

Image
We have painted rooms before, three rooms, a bathroom and stripes in the hallway of our apartment to be exact. So I would say we are no strangers to painting. We are aware of the do's and don'ts.. the important Repair. Prepare. Paint. What we were strangers to is the repairing. All the previous walls we had painted were pretty much new. They came with the original contractors paint.. so repairing was not needed. Nor did we need separate primer.. the paint plus primer combo pretty much worked. Step one, I took pictures of all the repair jobs on the walls.. thank god the family room area had been already taken care of by the contractor and we only had to deal with the kitchen part of the walls. We took the pictures to show to the Home Depot guy so that we were certain the products we were purchasing we correct.      The job required sanding the bumpy, uneven areas till they were smooth, filling in the holes with joint compound or spackle, waiting for it to dry and then re-
