The Story Of Us

Happy to see you are all enjoying our trip to Hawaii so much. It was such a magical place.. we had so many incredible experiences but now we come to an end. DAY 9 We had another relaxed morning. We spent some time on the beach and then walked over to Black Rock. It was a large rock jutting out that people climbed and jumped off of. It was located at the end of our beach just a couple of minutes away. What we didn't know was that it was a sea turtle hotspot!  They were not shy at all and just kept swimming up to us. Around 1:30pm we headed out to explore Maui's upcountry. Upcountry Maui is located on the slopes of Haleakalā and offers a cooler weather and a more rustic, paniolo (cowboy) vibe. He headed straight for Makawao. It was a cute area lined with galleries, shops and restaurants. It felt like we weren't on a tropical island anymore.  We ate at Freshie's. Nice and simple food. Very tasty and generous portions.  There are two famous bakeries in Makawao, Komoda Store...

Hello May?  Continuing with our Maui adventure. Day 8    Since our day spent on the Road to Hana involved a very very early wake up, the next day we woke up with no alarms. We are generally early risers but we took the time to just lay in bed and relax. Once we were up we headed to Whalers Village.  Whalers Village is a shopping and food area nestled in the midst of the line of resorts in Kaanapali. We got in the long Island Vintage line to grab some breakfast. While Whalers Village was convenient it did not have a lot of options and we missed the endless choices available to us in Waikiki.  We took our treats and had breakfast on the beach.. and H in a tree. Then we walked a bit on the beach before it was time to board our boat for a snorkel and whale watching tour.  We booked a tour with Gemini Sailing Charters. We had an 11am sail time and it included lunch and snacks.  I can not rave enough about this trip. This little dude above did not want...

The weeks before we left for Hawaii, Maui was hit by two back to back storms causing historic flooding causing flash floods, landslides and other damage. Many roads and parks were shut down leaving us unsure about what to do. There was no getting our money back. And the future weather was looking good. So we packed extra books and some card games and even if we weren't able to do all the activities we had planned we would still at least get the relaxation we had wanted.  DAY 6    We left Oahu and flew into Maui. Maui, known as the Valley Isle, is the second-largest Hawaiian island, formed by two major volcanoes, Haleakalā and the West Maui Mountains. We picked up our rental car and by the time we got to our hotel it was midday. The check in line was unbelievably long. The hotel we were staying at was the same company we stayed at in Waikiki and due to availability and $$ I had booked a ground level suite. And I was nervous.
