DIY Bean Bag Toss

Image
Look what we made! It was a full family effort. We had some wood and paint lying around from previous projects. M and the boys made the structure. The boys and I designed and painted it. And my mother in law made the bean bags.  We voted on the design                         Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin

I Painted My Tile Floor and Here's What Happened.

Image
We had wanted to change our foyer tiles before we even bought the house.. it was always one of the things we were going to do. But it was low on the priority list and so five and a half years later we finally came around to it. The tiles lead into our powder room which as most of you know is also a project we are working on. While we hired someone to fix up the bathroom, after reading and watching many youtube videos about how to paint tile we decided we would give it a go.  Step One - Sand the tiles. I have an electric sander from when we re did M's office . That is the only way this would have been possible. I would not have been able to sand such a large space by hand and would have most likely skipped the step. I did not see much difference in the tiles after sanding so it could have skipped. If you have any missed grout now is the time to have it filled and fixed. Step Two - Clean the tiles. I bought a degreaser and hand cleaned the tiles twice.  Step Three - M tap

I just about disappeared there didn't I? And it wasn't even to do anything fun.. :( Remember the powder room renovations I spoke about in my last post .. which was over a month ago.. well after getting 90% off it completed we hit a bit of a bump in the road.. while in Morocco last spring we found and impulsively purchased a handmade brass sink and faucet. While we did place a call to our contractor friend before making the purchase, it never occurred to any of us that the supply lines in the US are different from those in Europe. So while we have been searching for a solution none has been found :( Additionally, the little DIY I was working on took on a life of its own and while we estimated it would take a week or so to do it ended up taking a month. A month of doing nothing else.. argh! It turned out beautifully and I'll hopefully share it all with you very soon it was murderous work. Our spring break is less than a month away so that is something we are all very m

Penny Spinners and Dinosaurs

Image
Our ping pong table was finally delivered..and with it came tons of card board. Like all kids D grew up being a big fan of boxes and now H is following suit.. but usually they have always focused on playing inside the box.. So I was pleasantly surprised and incredibly pleased when I asked H to help put the little cardboard pieces in the recycling and he replied.. 'I think we can make something with them' And so I went where everyone goes.. Pinterest! We started with making dinosaurs. My proportions were all over the place.. T-Rex was especially disastrous since he could seem to stand upright.. but the kids didn't seem to care too much. and then we made penny spinners.. except we used quarters.. I have a few more things I'd want to try with them.. not too complicated.. I like the easy crafts.. source  I bought some multicolored yarn  source  the car looks easy.. and cute..  With the holidays coming closer

The Art of Hats

Image
M has as ever growing collection of hats and for some time now we had been trying to figure out how to store them. He didn't want them to be upstairs in our closet.. he picks his hat in the morning before going to work. He was also worried about preserving the shape and structure of his beloved fedoras. We have already laid one.. his favorite to rest. An empty space above our Ikea shoe cabinet and some clear push pins, in less that an hour we had our solution. And it looks pretty :) p.s we are currently getting ready for a massive snow storm, expecting over a foot of snow and strong gales. And to make matters worse over the weekend our heater stopped working. We are hoping to get it repaired today.. Stay warm my fellow East Coasters.. Stay safe. UPDATE: Heat is up and running :)                         Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin
