I just about disappeared there didn't I? And it wasn't even to do anything fun.. :( Remember the powder room renovations I spoke about in my last post .. which was over a month ago.. well after getting 90% off it completed we hit a bit of a bump in the road.. while in Morocco last spring we found and impulsively purchased a handmade brass sink and faucet. While we did place a call to our contractor friend before making the purchase, it never occurred to any of us that the supply lines in the US are different from those in Europe. So while we have been searching for a solution none has been found :( Additionally, the little DIY I was working on took on a life of its own and while we estimated it would take a week or so to do it ended up taking a month. A month of doing nothing else.. argh! It turned out beautifully and I'll hopefully share it all with you very soon it was murderous work. Our spring break is less than a month away so that is something we are all very m

The Master Bedroom

Image
This is what we started out with.. nothing absurdly ugly just drab, old and lived in.. and not by us.  I notice that my before pictures lack pillows and a blanket.. we have those.. lol.. we had already started moving things out of the room when I remembered wait.. I need pictures!! That white door at the end is our old bathroom and the doors to the left our old his and her walk in closets.. that entire nook was taken in to create our new master bath :) The his in hers were converted into a larger joint closet.. with it's door to the left and the door to the new bathroom to the right The inside of the closet customized with ClosetMaid and the walls painted a beautiful Shell Coral by Behr.. seriously this picture does not do the color justice. The walls painted and floors refinished.. I'll tell you the nightmare that is refinishing your floors on another day.. And then work began on our great big Ikea hack.. this is one of my f

The New Master Bath

M and I were tickled by the fact that most of you thought the before picture of our teeny tiny master bath was in fact the after. We were constantly bumping into each other.. everything was golden and most things were being held together with caulk.. the previous owners solution for most things..oh and how can we forget our very own bathroom phone.. lol Our plan from the moment we bought this house was to use this space to create a larger bathroom. The two doors to the left are the his and her walk in closets.. we got rid of those doors and created a new door.. but more about the closet later.  We hired the contractor, worked out the design and then came the fun but hard part picking a color palette, buying the vanity.. choosing tiles. So many options!  The door to the left is for the new joint walk in closet and the door on the right to the new master bathroom. and now the after TIPS: -Pinterest is both a god send

lately - injury edition

Image
Remember my little tumble on the stairs.. well as you know I didn't get to rest a lot and while I tried to sneak in a little rest here and there why ankle still hurts.. and now the pain has started to radiate throughout my leg.. there should be a rule against mom's being sick/hurt! So three weeks after the initial injury I limped on over to meet with an orthopedic doctor.. meet my latest stylish accessory and thanks to Mr. AirCast I can not fit into any of my boots or cute shoes..! Four more weeks the doctor said :(  Don't start to feel bad for me just yet.. it gets better! While M was picking D up from somewhere he spotted a friend and while waving to him he managed to poke himself in the eye.. Now try waving and see how hard it is to poke yourself in the eye..not easy. I just have a really talented husband. :) Eye drops and a little drops seemed like the solution.. but when he woke up the next morning he was still in pain. So off to the ER... again T

The Basement

Image
For my regular readers.. you all know we've been working on our basement since last winter.. it was a big unfinished space and we wanted to make sure whatever we did we did right. Living on the east coast means most of the year it's too cold or wet to go out and we wanted to make a space where our boys could escape to in the winter.. we wanted a place we could hang out with friends.. .. we wanted a lot.. so striking the perfect balance was not easy. So I made layouts.. and more layouts and then we started to meet with contractors.. in case you missed it here's my post about Hiring a Contractor We started with a large dark rectangular space with an ugly green staircase running down the middle. Our solution.. creating a U shaped space with a large closet running from underneath the staircase to the end of the room.. The layout in its simplest form. The previous owner or the builder thought it was a good idea to scatter the utilities throughout the room.. so we ha
