Saying Goodbye to Copenhagen

Image
We spent our last day and a half in Copenhagen.. we started our fourth morning with breakfast in Cafe Europa. This was my favorite breakfast of our trip.   After our bellies were full we headed towards Church of Our Savior, a baroque church most famous for its helix spire with an external winding staircase that can be climbed to the top, offering extensive views over central Copenhagen. All I can say is wow! It had been a chilly morning, by the time we were half way up the spiral it had gotten windy and started to drizzle.. it was exhilarating, also a little scary.. had to really hold on to D, I was afraid we'd fly away. H had to be carried all the way up, the stairs were irregular so M was exhausted by the time we got to the top. But so worth it.  After the church we walked through Christiania, a self proclaimed autonomous neighborhood of less than 1000 residents. It is famous for it's hippie culture and cannabis. No photography....

A Castle and Some Art

Image
It was our fourth day in Denmark and our last with a car and so we headed north. Our first stop was Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerod just 30 minutes away from Copenhagen. It was the royal residence for King Christian IV in the early 17th century. It was a small and beautiful castle which we all enjoyed walking through.. and then outside was a small lake, ponds, fountains and beautiful gardens that the boys really enjoyed running through.  Our next stop was Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk.  The above was a mixed media piece called Gleaming Lights of the Soul by Yayoi Kusama. There was a small line, a few people were allowed to enter the room at a time. We were given a minute in the room. It was a dark room filled with water the walls and ceilings were mirrors. We walked out onto a platform. The room was full of tiny lights. The colors changing.. it was simply sublime. This is one of the museum's few permanent installat...

A Day in Aarhus

Image
We started our third day with breakfast at Cafe Norden. M's  mine  D's It's wasn't a very typical American breakfast but to our surprise our pickiest eater gobbled it all up On our second day of having a car we drove to Aarhus. It was over 3 hours away. Once we arrived we started by driving around for a bit before heading to the ARoS Museum. It is wonderful to see D's world grow and him beginning to enjoy art. We had three favorites.. the first and most awesome was the rainbow panorama. We spent countless minutes here.. going around and around the walkway enjoying the colors of the rainbow.        Our second favorite was based on mirrors and perception but photographs were not allowed. Another favorite was Boy by Ron Mueck. It was a large piece and the detail was amazing After leaving the museum we grabbed some lunch at The Shack Yup.. another burger. Due to our religion we have a lot of dieta...
