Thanksgiving in Cancun

Image
The last couple of years we have been spending our Thanksgiving's on a warm tropical island. We don't have much family here and most of our friends are busy so seems pointless, the four of us just sitting at home.  The first time we ventured out was in 2021. We were still dealing with Covid and we had found the strictest most Covid safe island and had the most magical time in Antigua . In 2022 we went to Jamaica . This year we revisited Cancun. The last time we were in Cancun  was in 2016 and H was still in diapers! We had an early morning flight, I had imagined us by the pool by lunch. But things didn't go exactly as planned. We had to disembark the plane due to low tire pressure and reboard over an hour later. The rest of the journey was uneventful. But once we got to the Cancun airport it was madness. And I hate to say it but we got scammed!  We have been avidly traveling for almost 15 years now and have been to countless countries and it was Cancun that got us.. lol. Ye

Five Blissful Days in Antigua

Image
We are back. We have been back for a week now.. and things have been busy. Can you believe it's December already?  We spent five deliciously blissful days at St. James Club, Antigua. But it didn't start out that way. This was our first time travelling internationally, it was our first time on a plane. And it all starts with a Covid test. I made an appointment at a local pharmacy that we recently had a really good experience with. They insisted all appointments must be made online. So I did, Sunday morning. And then we show up on said Sunday morning and turns out the pharmacy is closed on Sundays. Time to panic? Thankfully there is a near by urgent care we step in to.  Do they have appointments available? Yes.. just a couple of people ahead of us. Do they take our insurance? Sure, no problem. Excellent.  We are seen three hours later and are informed that there is a $75 co pay per person. Aren't these supposed to be free? Not in an urgent care. Couldn't you have told us

How was everyones holiday? We spent four days doing nothing. Well actually they spent 4 marvelous days doing nothing.. I did what I have been doing since March, cooked, cleaned and was surrounded by my boys. While the holidays and long weekend were about getting some of that much needed family time, the pandemic has given us all loads and loads of family time.. I wouldn't mind some un family time right about now. Me, in the house by myself.. that would really be something. I am not trying to be negative.. everyone is ussually doing there own thing.. not exactly bugging me or anything but you get what I mean right? I loved not having an alarm.. we woke up when we woke up, which is still queit early.. but then lazed about, made lots of pancakes and waffles and drank plenty of coffee.. earlier this year we started making pour over coffee and it is the best. One day the kids decided to make breakfast.. M chipped in to help but the boys hardly needed any. I am really really trying to t

I've been a little off these past couple of weeks.. the days seem to be speeding by. I haven't been sleeping well.. and the days just seems to be blurring together. I feel uninspired and unmotivated. Not to say nothing has been happening.. life still goes on.  We have of course been reading.. D is reading The Mysterious Benedict Society and H is attempting to read The One and Only Bob, he still needs help with some of the words. We finished the first Harry Potter book and have now started the second one. Over the last few weeks we also watched a lot of movies based on books. We watched the first Harry Potter movie, The One and Only Ivan and Wonder. When asked, the answer was unanimous, the books were better than the movie. Hands down. The boys preferred the way they had imagined things, the movies skipped so many parts..  The weather has been all over the place.. and we are making the most of all the warm days that are popping up. In fact we even had an impromptu photo session

Happy December everyone.. yup we say it every year and so I'll say it again.. how is it December already?? Seriously! We had a fantastic Thanksgiving.. it was very nontraditional.. there was no turkey or pie but there was a lot of fun. We started off Wednesday with a Rangers vs Hurricanes hockey game. M gets these amazing club seat tickets from work every year and we all look forward to going every year. And the fact that the Rangers won 3-2 was just the icing on the cake. We arrived in the city a few hours in advance and wandered around for a bit.. and spotted this big fella in a store. On Thanksgiving Day we headed to Staten Island to the Lantern Festival.. we had been to one before  many years ago in Montreal  when D was little. It was absolutely beautiful..  On Friday we had tickets to see Sponge Bob the Musical at the NJ State Theater. But before the show we stopped at our favorite hot dog place, Destination Dogs. I had the Bangkok Do

I skipped posting last week.. hope all of you celebrating had good Thanksgivings.. we had a pretty good week.. but very few pictures to prove it.. so you'll just have to take my word for it. We started Wednesday night out with dinner at a friends house.. stayed out late.. the next morning stayed in bed way longer than we usually do.. and spent most of Thanksgiving day doing nothing.. just as planned. We ate chicken instead of turkey.. played Blokus with the boys, it was our first time playing it and everyone enjoyed it. Friday we shopped a bit online.. we did venture out to the stores in the afternoon.. we were supposed to pick up a ping pong table we had bought online but when we got there it took the store 20 minutes to locate it..inform us that it will not fit into our minivan and then it took another 40 mins to return it. That was enough Black Friday for us.. We ended the night with a movie.. We watched Jack Frost..  Saturday followed a pretty similar pattern of
