What is STEM? New Snapology Franchise in New Jersey

Have you heard of STEM? Of course you have.. it's the new hot word.. I see it all over Pinterest, over the past few months I have been saving all these interesting posts.. collecting activities for the summer months and then lo and behold I hear about a new Snapology STEM program open a few counties over.

I spent some more time reading up about the subject, most of the websites provide vague explanations.. until I stumbled upon We Are Teachers, this website is perfect. It breaks down the subject in an easy to understand language and shows how anyone.. especially teachers can incorporate STEM into all aspects of learning. Another definition I found and really liked was 'STEM makes creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors.'  It's the education of the future.

Snapology Stem Program
Schooling a Monkey is also a great resource for easy to do at home STEM activities.

D had created this Lego maze a few years ago. Didn't even realize we were doing a STEM activity.

Snapology offers a wide variety of classes and camps.. it's a tad too far from me to be able to take the boys there regularly. Hopefully someone will open a franchise closer to us so we can partake in all of its amazing activities..

Snapology Stem Birthday Parties

Till then I will have to settle for pre planning H's next birthday party with them. He is our Lego lover and when I saw that Snapology will bring the party to you I couldn't imagine anything better. That above picture is his bed.. according to him it's a candy factory. :)

    1. From what I understood it's not really anything new, it's what we have been doing.. putting a white carnation in colored water and watching the carnation change color or the reaction of baking soda with vinegar. It's just that someone decided to label it differently. With the new label they are also bringing more attention to the subject of learning while playing and how to make learning fun. Toys like Lego and Knex are getting a lot of focus.. a few years ago my eldest took a class where they built something with Lego's then added a power source to make it move.

It may still seem vague but I hope that at least sort of answers your question.

  5. We have some STEM workshops in our area occasionally and I always think they look fun. I'm thinking they're usually geared to High School kids, but I might be wrong.

My baby will be 29 this week and he still loves LEGOs. :)

  9. I've never heard of this program before...how cool, Hena! My eldest is going to high school this coming school year, and there are actually several schools in our area that has a STEM program. Very challenging from what I heard but really great in terms of preparing the kids for future university studies.

  19. Haha that is an excellent candy factory! As a teacher I think STEM is awesome. Kids learn so much better when they're actively exploring and using their hands and naturally problem solving. I love when we do these kinds of activities!
