Quincy Mines and Copper Harbor
We don't usually do a lot of tours but when I was looking at things to do in and around Houghton the Quincy Mines kept coming up. Houghton is in the Keweenaw Peninsula, sitting on the Keweenaw Waterway and the largest city in the Copper Country region. Across the waterway sits Hancock and in Hancock is the Quincy Mine. It is an extremely well preserved copper mine site. There are two main parts: the surface works, and a small part of the underground mine that you can visit. I really had my fingers crossed on this one. It was a two plus hours tour, I had booked morning tickets and with kids.. especially teenagers you want to make sure things will not be too boring. This will be long and wordy - be warned! The first part of the tour started above ground.
