Buenos Aires, Argentina

What a journey we have been on.. this one has been especially eventful.. starting with the end of the world and then exploring the stunning Torres del Paine National Park. We went from Chile to Argentina, hiked in El Chalten and then travelled north to see Iguazu Falls. Now we end our trip in Buenos Aires.

If you read last weeks post you know we had some flight issues. In the end instead of landing around 11pm we landed closer to 1am. We made it to our hotel and crashed.

The next morning we checked out leaving our luggage at the hotel and headed out to explore for a few hours before our flight.

But first breakfast.. we couldn't remember the last time we had a decent meal. Probably the breakfast the day before.

We had three neighborhoods we were hoping to explore.

First Recoleta. Recoleta is an affluent neighborhood with Paris style homes and the famous Recoleta Cemetery with extravagant tombs. There was a ticket for the cemetary, a long queue and we did not have the time. Instead we wandered the outdoor market nearby.. even shopped a little.

Next was the San Telmo neighborhood. It is the oldest, most bohemian neighborhood in Buenos Aires, renowned for its 19th-century colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and as a birthplace of tango.

It was such a fun and vibrant place.. so many fun markets to explore. We could have spent many more hours here.

The area seemed to be a tribute of sorts to Mafalda, a world-renowned Argentine comic strip.

But we had one more stop to make. La Boca, Buenos Aires' most vibrant and colorful neighborhood, famous for the Caminito street museum and the legendary La Bombonera soccer stadium.

The area was an explosion of color.. very soccer themed. A lot of Messi and Maradona art, statues etc. The area felt a little kitschy and less authentic. Almost like walking into of of Disney's themed areas but still very energetic. We grabbed a quick lunch of sandwiches and then called a taxi to take us to our hotel. We picked up our luggage and thankfully had an uneventful trip back home.

Thank you for following along with us.
