Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch

Continuing with our winter trip to Arizona. For those who are new here, we started our trip in Page then headed to Vegas. We took a day trip to Valley of Fire and then went to the beautiful city of Sedona. We are now headed to Tucson but before we get there we made a little stop on the way at Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. It was 3 hours from Sedona and an hour away from Tucson.

Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch is a three generation family owned and operated working ostrich ranch. They have been open to the public since 1999 when it was just the ostrich to feed. Now joining the ostrich are Miniature Sicilian Donkeys, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, Fallow Deer, Peking Ducks, Boer Goats, and the all-time favorite Rainbow Lorikeets.   

It is $12 per person, all animal feed is included. There is an extra $3 to feed the sting ray. We skipped the sting rays. 





The ostrich were super aggressive. If you didn't hold on tight they'd steal the whole cup. Here's a video











You could buy ostrich meat as well. 

This turned out to be a lot more fun then we had thought. I had added it to our itinerary just as a cute way to break up the 4 hour drive but this turned out to be a must do.

Elephant's Child, on her blog, is always showing photos of Rainbow Lorakeets down in Canberra visiting her garden, along with King Parots and many other birds, where she lives. They're so beautiful! Love their colors. You and your family packed so many interesting sights into your trip!

This looks like a fun day! We love to find little 'quirky' stops when we're on a road trip. Sedona is so pretty! I haven't been in several years, but i think when you're an east coaster it's a treat to spend time in the desert.

The ranch does sound like a great place to visit! My dad worked at a wildlife park, and they had ostriches you could feed too. If you didn't hold onto your bucket of food, they would steal it!

We were in Phoenix last weekend and drove right by this place twice!! Ha!! Wish I had known you were there. I could have hugged your neck and fed some ostrich at the same time. So glad this was a nice little activity to break up the trip. Isn't the topography/geography around Tuscon interesting?

It doesn't surprise me that they are aggressive. There is an ostrich at our local garden center that kind of scares me because it looks like it wants to peck my eyes out lol. But what a fun little find to break up the drive. A memorable experience for all, I'm sure!

That's so cool! Sounds like a fun stop. When I was a kid we did a drive through animal park and my family still teases me to this day about the emu that got aggressive and was sticking its head into the window of the car and scared me.

When the wall between our family room and kitchen see details here came down we had to deal with two different flooring, old carpet and newish laminate. The plan was to find the same laminate.. we found the box in the basement, how hard could it be? D's Amazing Race Party

Last weekend our eldest turned 9.. and we threw him an amazing race birthday party! As with all the boys other parties.. I bought a plain white cake from Wegmans and let D decorate it himself. We had a total of nine kids.. they picked bandanna's out of a bag to create 3 teams. First Task Not all the kids knew each other.. they were too amped up with the idea of winning that they couldn't manage to calm down and read the clue.. so we had to really guide them through it.. they made mistakes and we let it go.. it seemed a tad chaotic..  Second Task I had 33 little medicine cups filled with M&M's and Goldfish crackers.. 6 of them had stickers on the bottom. The first two teams found the sticker in the first try... what are the odds!? And the third team had to eat a lot of snacks before they finally found their sticker.
