Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch
Continuing with our winter trip to Arizona. For those who are new here, we started our trip in Page then headed to Vegas. We took a day trip to Valley of Fire and then went to the beautiful city of Sedona. We are now headed to Tucson but before we get there we made a little stop on the way at Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. It was 3 hours from Sedona and an hour away from Tucson.
Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch is a three generation family owned and operated working ostrich ranch. They have been open to the public since 1999 when it was just the ostrich to feed. Now joining the ostrich are Miniature Sicilian Donkeys, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, Fallow Deer, Peking Ducks, Boer Goats, and the all-time favorite Rainbow Lorikeets.

It is $12 per person, all animal feed is included. There is an extra $3 to feed the sting ray. We skipped the sting rays.
The ostrich were super aggressive. If you didn't hold on tight they'd steal the whole cup. Here's a video
You could buy ostrich meat as well.
This turned out to be a lot more fun then we had thought. I had added it to our itinerary just as a cute way to break up the 4 hour drive but this turned out to be a must do.
Aww this is cute!

We have driven by this ranch a few times, but never stopped. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletethat would be so much fun!! (except for the greedy ostriches).
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a fun way to interact with some amazing creatures. Great photos as always!
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child, on her blog, is always showing photos of Rainbow Lorakeets down in Canberra visiting her garden, along with King Parots and many other birds, where she lives. They're so beautiful! Love their colors. You and your family packed so many interesting sights into your trip!
ReplyDeleteI love when those side trips end up being so much better than you ever imagined!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun excursion. I love it when side stops turn out to be so much fun. We have a local Alpaca farm that we enjoy visiting.
ReplyDeleteI think Middle Son visited there when he spent some time in Phoenix as a teenager.
ReplyDeletePetting zoos -- such fun! I've eaten ostrich meat -- very low fat and heart healthy protein!
ReplyDeleteOh, how lovely! I think I would have skipped the sting rays too ...
ReplyDeleteAnd oh my, those ostrich are quite agressive indeed. Thank you for sharing that video, Hena! xxx
This looks like a really fun spot. And I bet the kids especially loved it, though I think I would too!
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like fun, I love animals!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such fun, even if it's a little disconcerting to think of feeding the ostriches then buying ostrich meat! That colorful bird is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh very good trip!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! An ostrich ranch! Super cool:) And my eldest loves tortoises:D
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to tangle with an ostrich haha ... they do look tough! As always, lovely captures of the kids and critters as well. :)

Looks like a fun visit!
ReplyDeleteit is always neat when you can get that up close with animals, I always enjoy it! Sure sounds like they have a lot of different ones and nice the food was included in the price.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! My grandchildren would be in Heaven.
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures of your kids and the critters! Floyd is a big tortoise. I have fed the Lorikeet in a zoo once, it was fun having them sit on your hand. Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like lots of fun!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to visit and interact with the animals. They have so many that I'm attracted to.

This looks like a fun day! We love to find little 'quirky' stops when we're on a road trip. Sedona is so pretty! I haven't been in several years, but i think when you're an east coaster it's a treat to spend time in the desert.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had fun! It's always the best kind of experience when you go somewhere and find it more fun than you anticipate. Those are my favorite kind of trips or experiences. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been here a few times with my kids and it is so fun! They love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun surprise outing. I like it when this sort of surprise happens.... good stuff!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us along and again I enjoyed looking at the photos!
ReplyDeleteAww, this does look like it was a nice outing, glad you had fun!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a cool place to visit, especially on a surprise visit because you'd never be able to guess what kind of a place you were going to, and it would be so much fun when you find out!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have been able to order Ostrich meat after my visit LOL. @bewareofthereader
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip! This sounds like something I would like to do someday.
ReplyDeleteYou have taken us to many interesting places. I would have enjoyed seeing all these super animals and birds. Thank you for sharing!
