Birthday Weekend

We are finally done with all our Costa Rican travel posts, which I hope you enjoyed and are now in current time.

The week before last M and I celebrated our birthdays. It was in the middle of the week so we didn't really do much but we had big plans for the weekend.

At what point do we get to blow out our own candles? Actually we have stopped doing candles. Never realized, before Covid, how gross it actually is. But this was just the four of us so we did.. for old times sake.

On Saturday we headed into the city in the afternoon. It turned out to be a beautiful day. I had spotted these viral hot chocolates on Instagram and wanted to try them. We found a small line outside the store, a couple minutes long. M and I shared an original, hot chocolate with a circle of roasted marshmallow fluff and a scoop of some more creamy deliciousness. While they kids chose an Oreo topping. They were very good and decadent. We walked while we sipped.

To Central Park and down to the Met.

Then we drove back down to Midtown. Time for the Knicks game.

The game wasn't great, the Knicks lost but we still had a good time.

The next morning we checked out and headed out for breakfast. We had intended to eat at Maman but turned out they had a power outage and were still working on getting the kitchen up and working so we walked around for a bit. We didn't want to pick up pastries or a bagel and were looking for a sit down place when we walked by La Pecora Bianca, a fancy Italian place that looked like it was serving breakfast. We were ravenous and skipped over the food pictures.. but did snap some of ourselves while we waited.

The matchy matchy was not intentional. We didn't know we had both packed red for the next day.

We wandered around the city for a bit. The kids had never been to FAO Schwartz, in fact they were little when Toy R Us shut down so they had never really been in (or remembered) a full on toy store.

H really loved the magic. And the people who worked there were all so wonderful and even taught him how to do a trick.

We had 2pm tickets to a show so we stopped at Breads Bakery to grab a quick bite before. And then off to the show! This was M and I's twelfth broadway show.. you can check out all the shows we've seen here

I am not always a fan of sequels and prequels. Some things I believe, should be left untouched and I felt Harry Potter was one of them. It was initially over 5 hours long but they have now condensed it and is now 3.5 hours with an intermission. And I must say, it was sublime. Absolutely amazing. There was magic in the show, magic I know was obviously a slight of hand but they had done it so brilliantly. If you are even remotely a Harry Potter fan I'd say check it out.. now!

Once the show ended we made a quick run to get out of the city and over to our friends house to catch the big Super Bowl game. We had double booked accidentally, not realizing that the Super Bowl was on that weekend, but it all worked out.

It was a whirlwind of a weekend but such fun.

  2. What a lovely, busy weekend. Your sons will have such wonderful memories. Happy birthday to you and M. I've always thought blowing out candles on cakes was unhygienic, especially with very young children, but it's fun!

  6. Lovely! Your family shots are more delicious than the treats. I had given no thought to chemicals possibly emanating from the candles until now. Wow! But they are so pretty. :(

  15. The candle thing made me laugh! We say the same thing. I can't believe we used to blow germs all over the cake...and then serve it lol. Now we just cut a piece and place a candle in that piece, so it doesn't get all over the cake :) Hope you had the best birthday!
