lately
How are we all doing? Where has time flown by? Farewell summer (I am happy to say mainly because it has been just so so hot), hope you all had a good one. And hello September, which of course means back to school.
They are three days in at this point and D has homework every single day. Even the weekend. I am not a big fan of enormous amounts of homework especially on the weekend. H on the other hand had no homework and I wished his teacher had at least given him something. Never satisfied are we?
This has been quite the summer.. we started it off with our trip to Switzerland and wrapped it up with a trip to California.. but more on that soon.
We went to an Ed Sheeran concert.. fun fact. This was collectively our first concert ever! I have been to local bands playing but a full flown blown concert.. never. D not a lover.. H can't wait for his next one.
Both boys will do there regular sports this year, D wants to join the chess club as well (he has developed a sudden and intense interest in it this past year) There is also a podcasting club (new) and I am pushing him into trying it out.
This has been quite the summer.. we started it off with our trip to Switzerland and wrapped it up with a trip to California.. but more on that soon.
When we weren't traveling
The boys were playing tennis with their favorite coach. This was also H's last year taking summer swim lessons.
We spent some time in our local Six Flags..
I also dabbled in crochet. I bought this little guy on TEMU and my God it is hard! That stupid magic ring took me forever.. I watched multiple youtube videos. I think I have gotten a hang of it now.. though don't look too closely I'm sure my stitches are wonky. The other day I learned how to add color. So yea! A strange thing though.. I am a lefty (but also quite ambidextrous due to old ladies telling my I'll burn in hell for using my left hand when I was little), but for some reason I have found myself crocheting with my right hand.. I hadn't even realized it until yesterday. Is that normal?
The rest of the summer was spent watching movies and just laying about and reading. It was too hot or too rainy to spend much time outdoors.
The photos are lovely and hoping the children enjoy the new school year and you are heading into autumn where we are into spring down here.
ReplyDeleteI crochet, have done for years and taught myself.
The best way I feel is to learn how to do the granny squares first, then when you have mastered that, then do something small - just a thought.
Sounds like you've been having a good time!

I hope the boys have a wonderful school year. It sounds like you had a lovely summer.
ReplyDeleteYour summer was filled with many adventures and good times in spite of the heat. You will improve with the crochet as time goes by - the secret is in how you learn to hold the tension of the yarn as you make the stitches! Have a great September!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you all had an amazing summer. I hope the boys have an awesome school year.
ReplyDeleteI hope your boys both have a good and fun year at school!
ReplyDeleteI love that the boys made their own signs for their first day back to school. I agree it seems like teachers seem to go from one extreme to the other with how much homework they give, would be nice to have a happy medium amount :)
ReplyDeleteI like Ed Sherran too, I bet that was a neat concert. I have only been to one myself, not big on loud things, hurts my ears.
That is funny about your crocheting, my daughter is a lefty too, and when we went to take classes on crochet when she was younger the lady was right handed and so my daughter just naturally followed what she did with her right hand and still does it that way now, guess that is something you can do either way. My girlfriend was left handed and she also crocheted with her left, so it can go either way.
That definitely sounds like a Summer well spent, Hena! I do hope that the homework burden for D levels itself out. It's not fun when weekends cannot be spent as free time as intended! xxx
ReplyDeleteI agree. I am happy to be out of the heat, and kids back in school.
ReplyDeleteI've never understood why people try to "correct" lefties! I write with my right hand, but eat and do other stuff with my left. Both of my grandsons are lefties.
ReplyDeleteI hope the boys have a great school year!
I am glad that the hot summer temps are behind us as well! Happy back to school season!
ReplyDeleteI understand what you’re saying about homework! Enjoy these times with your boys! Take it from me, the time goes very quickly. I loved that you chose Ed Sheeran for their first concert!
ReplyDeleteSarah Jane (Bella Coco) is the best online crochet teacher I have found! I watched her beginner videos over and over again...and she also does left hand videos! I HIGHLY recommend her: https://www.youtube.com/@bellacococrochet
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to believe it's September already. I love the pictures. They are wonderful. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you all had a good summer and now there is school
ReplyDeleteThe boys are growing up so fast! And that's so awesome that you guys got to see Ed Sheehan:)
ReplyDeletePS Yay that you're crocheting now:) Have you tried knitting? :D
Hope the boys have a great year in school and at their activities!
ReplyDeleteAw, your first family concert - a big one too! That's funny that one boy loved it and one did not. I love crocheting - my mom taught me when I was a child. I once made a 50-piece Barbie wardrobe (complete with wedding dress) for my nieces for Christmas, all free-crocheting (no patterns).
ReplyDeleteYou have packed a lot into your summer. I hope the heat is easing off. I failed to master crochet. Well done - and I hope the boys have a wonderful year at school.
ReplyDeleteYour crochet looks great, especially for a first attempt. It gets easier the more you do it. I have heard of lefties crocheting with their right hand. You might find it easier if you try your left, although that just means you'll have to reverse the way you've been learning. I'm sure there's a left-handed crochet community out there that could help you out with this. (Sorry, I'm a rightie.)
ReplyDeleteI've purchased three items from the talented Liz A., and can attest to her skill. And seeing your family always makes me smile as I've said before.
DeleteThese photos are so cute! And yes, summer flew by SO fast!

Sounds like you had a fantastic summer.
ReplyDeleteHope the boys have a great year in school .
The best for the children is to study for learn more things. And is so good to do a good sport, for health and to have more energy. Greetings from Mallorca.
ReplyDeleteI hope your boys have a wonderful school year! I keep telling my high schooler that I'm going to email her teachers and tell them to give her more homework because she never seems to have any. I'm not a fan of tons of it, but I think she could handle a LITTLE bit, you know??
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting blogginboutbooks.com!
What a fun summer you've had! Looking forward to your CA trip. I bet it was grand! The boys are getting so big. A new school year is always bittersweet. You're doing really well with that crocheting! I don't know how to use the magic ring but I've never tried. My grandmother was the same way with being ambidextrous because she wasn't allowed to use her left hand in school. My daughter is a leftie and I love it. I think she crochets left handed though. I will check with her.
ReplyDeleteYou have had an action-packed Summer! I'm with D on Ed Sheeran, I've seen him a couple of times but he didn't set my world alight even though he seems like a nice guy.
ReplyDeleteWell done with the crochet, it took me years to learn! xxx
The boys are getting so big! It's a little sad to see summer go, but I'm with you- it was just too hot and I'm actually ready for some fall weather!

Sounds like you guys had a great and productive summer. I hope your children like school. I'm not a big fan of homework. Most of it seems to be busywork.
ReplyDeleteI love that you're crocheting. I'm a knitter, and I still struggle with crochet, but it's such a great creative outlet.

ReplyDeleteI like summer and I hope the winter season runs out so fast.

It feels like yesterday the boyz were toddlers. Time goes by fast when they get close to being in high school. Podcasts? Good learning how to interview folks, think of ideas, and such. But for school age, I'm not sure. Behind the scenes production, now that is interesting to learn at a young age.
ReplyDeleteThat's me in Anonymous. :)
DeleteWhat great adventures you enjoyed this summer! Great pictures, too (despite your claims of spending most of the summer avoiding heat & rain)! Hope you feel well-stoked for this next school year. Between sports activities, chess club (and possibly a pod-casting club), it sounds like you have a busy year ahead!
ReplyDeleteI hope your boys have a wonderful school year! I've always wanted to try crocheting but it looks so intimidating. You have me curious though because I'm a lefty too and there are definitely some random things like cutting with scissors and hitting a softball that I do right handed and actually struggle to do left handed.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! It sounds like your summer was a good one. I saw Ed Sheeran in concert, too, this summer. It was the first concert that I'd been to in years. Not a huge fan of crowds but I managed OK and my daughter loved it! Congrats on learning to crochet. It's something I've thought about trying but I guess I don't want to know enough because I've never pursued it.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly sounds like you had a wonderful summer.
ReplyDeleteI hope the boys have a successful new school year.
All the best Jan
You have a lovely family. I can tell those two boys keep you busy! Very nice that you all went to the concert together as a family.
ReplyDeleteyour crochet is lovely and don't be too hard on yourself, the more you do it the better you get, it's with any new skill!! I didn't mind homework amounts as long as it didn't involve me (ha ha ) Luckily when they there in high school my husband could help with the higher math levels.Definitely not my skill set.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking with my mother about the abundance of homework last evening! She's a teacher (and I've worked as a teacher myself), and it just feels like so much busywork is being given to these kids. Beneficial homework, to a limited extent, can help, but there's just so much of it!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe your boys are getting so old! I feel like we've grown up with them!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great summer and a busy school year ahead! I like the idea of the boys making their own back to school signs! You can see their progress in drawing through the years! I'm going to tell my daughter about them!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute. A pure smile.

enjoy back to school for kids....
ReplyDeleteGood luck
Over and over I see studies that show that doing homework does not increase learning---but it continues to be over assigned, I think. I hope that it moderates for your sons so that you feel happy about the amount of work assigned for home.
ReplyDeleteYour crochet round looks fine :)
ReplyDeleteY'all had such great fun this summer (love the pix) and I hope the boys have a great time at school this year!
I am never a fan of homework. :) I would love to learn how to crochet, but whenever I've tried I've failed. I haven't been to a concert in ages!!

It looks easy to crochet with wool, but it is really difficult to do it by yourself.
ReplyDeleteI once tried to crochet a doll, but because of a mistake somewhere, I had to disassemble and re-knit it three or four times, which made me very anxious,LOL~
backpacks for school
Wow, you had such a nice summer with all of your vacations. I can't wait to hear about the California trip. I love California and I went in 2021 and I hope to return again. Good luck with the boys returning to school. I think you are doing a great job with the crochet. Trying to do the magic ring is hard and I always have to look at a Youtube video to remember how to make it. I hope you have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteWell I say make H do half of D's homework and then they'll both learn and be busy, haaaha! What a beautiful family you have! Love the picture of the four of you. I love TEMU!!!! Our Dagny says she wants to learn to crochet so maybe I'll buy her one of those and watch her tear her hair out, haaha! I am so mean. xoxo
