lately

I have been in a bit of a book funk.. the last three books I read have been not so great. I am currently reading The Girl in the Mirror by Rose Carlyle.. I am a couple of chapters in but it seems promising.

We have started reading the third Harry Potter book, the Prisoned of Azkaban. The kids are enthralled by the series and try to negotiate extending their bedtime every night just to be able to hear a bit more.

Ever heard of an agamograph? Well the kids were bored over the weekend and I found this little activity for them to do.

H made this one. You can find the template here

D made the one below. You can find the template here

We have been working on redoing M's office space..  we had redone it when we had moved in over seven years ago and thought it needed a refresh. You can see how we redid it the first time here

This is the before.. the after is not done just yet..

We are also sprucing up the guest bedroom which for all these years has always been a bit of an after thought. Every time we had a guest we thought, God we need to fix up this room and then forgot all about it until our next guest arrived.

Though now the guest room is an even bigger mess. We bought a dresser that came in two boxes and a million pieces with one missing! Customer service refused to send us the missing piece. Instead they are resending the dresser and we have to some how either find the missing piece in that box provided that that box has all of its pieces or pack this entire mess up and send it back to them.. ugh!

Adulting sucks!

We are also car hunting, M's current car makes H nauseous. It's too small and the kids feel claustrophobic so we are looking for something a little bigger, it is not a fun job. Why are there so many options?

We're hoping to go skiing again next weekend, so that's something to look forward to. What are you looking forward to these days?

  7. Yes this happens to me too so I stick to what I like now. I don't ready mysteries or thrillers b/c there is too much time to figure it out like Gone Girl which I figured before the big plot twist I was annoyed same with Deep in the Woods. I find the characters in these books to be not relatable or believable. I do not like romance books. I like historical reference or historical fiction or biographies so that is all I read now. Currently I am reading a book about the art movement in mid-century Paris it is really interesting.

  8. That's a cool craft!

I've read a series of eh books, which kills my vibe. Last night I started a good one.

  9. Those drawings look fun and I'm sure the boys are enjoying the Harry Potter book. My husband could use an office so bad, who knew he would be working from home this long!! He is currently using my office and it is right next to the laundry room, so kind of noisy (and it makes it hard for me to do laundry when he's on video calls- ha!).

  10. Love the office space and what a cool project to do with the kids. Adulting is hard especially during a pandemic. Take care Hena!

  11. Well, maybe you can figure out what is missing from the second one and then find a hardware store after Covid eases and have a second piece of furniture. I'm always surprised when a company just resends the order (and don't want the original back.) Sometimes it's a good thing. But where do you put an unbuilt piece of furniture?!

Love the accordion rainbow and such!

  12. We all love options, but yeah, they can be overwhelming at the same time. We usually buy used and Japanese.
That's a neat art activity. It reminds me of illusion knitting where one angle looks like regular old knitting, while the other shows an image.

  13. Well the customer service for that dresser is awful. That's happened to us with IKEA, and they are so good about it.
As for books, I just finished the Nickle Boys and it was fabulous. In fact, it's a book for our upcoming online book club. If you're interested I can give you details of how to join?? (You can email me at jtouchofstyle@gmail.com)

    PS Yes...adulting, indeed, does suck!
PPS DO the kids know about the new HP TV series coming to HBO Max? So exciting!

  16. Agamograph is so cool and fun! Wish I had known this when my boys were little - they were a handful and keeping them occupied was quite a challenge!

    Happy Tuesday, Hena!

  19. i have never seen drawing like the boys made, they are so cool!!!

i like the window seat in the office, i hope you keep that. it's such a great spot for the boys to relax and read!!

throw that dresser out and buy one that is delivered, assembled!! better yet, skip the dresser, our guest room does not have a dresser, just a luggage rack and the closet. no dresser keeps the room much more open and uncluttered looking!!

  20. Those agamographs are fantastic, and I learned a new word, so thank you :-) But oh, you're so right about adulting. That thing with the dresser is totally crazy. I do hope you won't have to repack those two boxes! xxx

  26. This is a wonderful art project for the boys. Those are really creative. I was looking around at the office space, and it looks very nice. The yellow touches are nice and cheerful. That's a big, spacious room. So sorry your new dresser came in so many pieces to put together. What happened to just going to the furniture store and having them deliver in one piece? Oh, things have changed since I bought furniture. ; )

  28. Love the artwork by the kids - i haven't seen them before, so cool!

How frustrating a piece of furniture was missing! We unfortunately had one of our furniture pieces break, and as it was a gift we weren't sure what to do about it. We went back to Ikea, explained that we couldn't bring them broken glass and asked what we could do. They were so nice, although it was a gift and we didn't have the receipt we knew who bought it so got their ikea account number to confirm and showed them a picture of the smashed glass - they gave us a new glass panel! It's a shame you couldn't just get the missing piece, so annoying!

Hope that you are having a good weekend! :)
