lately
Ah where do I start?
We are back from our little vacation and it was perfect.. a post on that will be coming soon..
The kids started school.. they had two virtual days.. it was smooth sailing for the 5th grader.. not so much for the 1st grader.. I wanted to send that teacher a big virtual hug.. juggling twenty something 6 year olds in school and online at the same time can't be easy. Currently their school day ends at 12pm which I guess is great for the teacher.. less great for me. Waking up early has been a real struggle.
They went to school in person for two days as well.. it's been pretty uneventful so far.. thankfully. I got them lanyards (that is such a weird word) for their masks so they don't accidentally drop them on the floor. In fact M and I attached them to our masks as well and found them very useful.
On inquiring I was not quite surprised when the boys said they prefer virtual learning to in person. They are introverts and don't crave the need to be around others.. not sure if that is a good or bad quality.. good in a pandemic I suppose. They like to be in their own space without the stress of masks etc.
We thought to make little thank you care packages to give to the teachers and bus driver on the first day. It contained a hand sanitizer, packet of wipes, packet of tissues and a couple of Emergen-C packets.
On a separate note.. in a promotion with Nakturnal I received these incredibly stunning earrings. The brand has a beautiful array of stylish and chic gold earrings.
I just finished reading Little Fires Everywhere and am currently devouring A Curse so Dark and Lonely. I haven't watched the Little Fire show.. I heard mixed reviews and don't want that to affect my experience of the book. I'll write reviews soon.
I also just finished watching Anne with an E. It was positively delightful. It had a dark edge and touched upon a lot of current social issues while still being set in the 1800's. I was midway through it's second season.. there are a total of three when I found out it had been cancelled. I had watched Anne of Green Gables growing up and I was concerned they would not be able to end the series with a satisfying close. But while hurried they were able to tie up many loose ends and I honest to God clapped and squealed in the end with M staring at me, eyebrow raised.
I am now watching 'The Boys' with M and The Great on my own, which is loosely based on Catherine the Great. It stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. They are both great in it.. but I have a soft spot for Hoult.. the little boy from About a Boy. Umbrella Academy has been repeatedly recommended so that's next on the list. What are you watching right now?
Oh and I almost forgot!
Having a lanyard attachment for the boys' masks is a clever idea! I plan to watch "The Umbrella Academy" soon myself. I just subscribed to Netflix last week. If you get a chance to watch the HBO series "Perry Mason" (a prequel, sort of), I highly recommend it as worthy!
ReplyDeleteI love those earrings!

Highly recommend Umbrella Academy, your mind will be blown! I liked Catherine the Great except for all the 'naughty talk' (am I a prude?). Stranger Things is really good as well. I'm interested to see where you went! Your kids look so happy and that is what is important. Both of my kids are introverted since I married an introvert.
ReplyDeleteHappy new school year!
ReplyDeleteLove your idea of attaching the masks.
Have a cozy day. : )
This post is full of cuteness!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and a happy new school year!
ReplyDeleteI love your rock collection and that your neighbors are adding to it. That is interesting about the kids preferring virtual learning. I get it though! I liked Little Fires, the book but can not get into the series.
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love those rocks. What a special thing to do. They are so colorful and cheerful and I'm sure appreciated during this time. I'm sorry your first grader had a bad time first week of school. I feel for these kids having to go to school. That was a thoughtful care package you made for the teachers. Love those yellow chairs in your son's room.
ReplyDeleteHave a pleasant week.

*Oh Yes, the Catholic Masses are also nice on tv, and I appreciate that they offer them, although I do miss going in person. : )
ps.....I just noticed what was written on the red rock.....beautiful. : )
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of using a lanyard is great, especially for kids. It's easy to lose track of a mask when it's not being worn.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for the little "care packages", too. I'm sure they were appreciated!
Those rocks are such a cute idea! I'm sure that they will bring joy to anyone who sees them!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear the kids' new school year did go off to a good start, both virtually and in person, even if it wasn't easy for your First Grader. Those lanyards - I've always found this a strange word too! - are a brilliant idea, as are the "care packages"! xxx
ReplyDeleteI love hearing about your boys -- they look so happy and I'm very glad virtual school is going well for them. And that was so kind, a thank you gift to the teacher and bus driver. That was very creative and clever.
ReplyDeleteBack last spring I started wearing my mask tied around my neck with a ribbon and/or an extra-long shoelace. It makes it really easy for me to have it with me all the time and not forget to grab it, and easy enough to change out when I need to put the mask in the laundry. The lanyard is a good idea.
i have a lot of empathy for parents at this difficult time, i am glad my boys are grown and living on their own!! the earrings are really pretty and those bags are so thoughtful!!
ReplyDeletei found a few painted rocks at my favorite lake, i photographed them and left them there. it has inspired me to paint some also. i just started to paint them but i will definitely share pictures of mine!!!
I LOVE those earrings. So pretty. That is what I was thinking about virtual schooling. It is ok for older kids, but younger than 3rd grade and I feel like it would be a struggle.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the earrings. Which are one of my addictions.
ReplyDeleteThe lanyards was a brainwave. As were the care packages. Thank you.
And yes, as an introvert, some aspects of the pandemic are much easier.
Stay safe, stay well.
Love the earrings! I really hope our kids back in school. I think it will help my son more.

I'm so glad the boys are doing well especially with the virtual portion. That has to be such an adjustment especially for the teachers!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet to make gift bags like that.

It's good the kids can be back in school! It must be strange for them only in class some days but tit's good they can continue online learning! It was so hard trying to juggle online learning with the kids and work from home here when everything was shut down, it's so nice that the kids are back at school and getting much better teaching - the online things were self paced and I had to explain a lot which was tricky when I had meetings, haha!
ReplyDeleteHope your week is off to a good start :)

Good that your boys return to school was uneventful. Hopefully it stays that way. The Umbrella Academy is fun and the second season was even better than the first.
ReplyDeleteOur virtual days go from 9-3:30. Sometimes I think that's a bit too long, but who am I to say? Hopefully we will be able to go hybrid soon. Love your new earrings!
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear that school is going well, Hena:) And the lanyard for the mask is such a great idea!
ReplyDeletePS Are you in Season 2 of The Boys? And thanks for the heads up about Anne with an E:)
I love the earrings and rocks.
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice that you and your kids sent thank you notes to the teachers and bus drivers on the 1st. I bet that means a lot to them!

My granddaughter is in Kindergarten full-time. They have a lanyard with their mask too. So far so good. Hope all goes well!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about your trip! Those earrings are so pretty, I love how part of it goes behind the earlobe.

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about your trip, Hena!
That's really sweet that you sent little care packages to the teachers. I'm sure they were much appreciated. :)
ReplyDeleteNeat earring. I was totally against watching Anne with an E b/c I had seen the original Canadian series. However, the girls kept watching and I was too curious not to watch and actually liked it. Yeah, you hit on that darker edge button, but in truth it was totally possible that's how life was like for orphans during that time, yeah?
