We Went to the Zoo

A month of no blogging made me realize just how much I love to blog, it was as if a part of me was missing.. we have a running nose, a stuffy nose and a headache that's going on five days now. Ramadan just started, D is going to summer camp and H is trying a hand and finger foods. But hopefully, fingers crossed, this is me back..

So much has happened in this past month.. so let me take you back to the beginning.. when we went to the Bronx Zoo. It was our first visit. We were there from open to close and I'm pretty sure we saw only half of the animals. We started the trip out with sleeping hippo's and polar bears in no mood to entertain.. but the disappointment ended there.. the big brown bears were in a heat.. they were frolicking in the water, trying to affectionately eat each other or make out with each other. not really sure.. but D was awed.

A monkey got frighteningly close.. it was very cool though you could tell D was a bit cautious..

the gorilla's were magnificent. they had just had a baby and it was beautiful to see them all gathered to welcome to new little on.

we rode the monorail..

and a camel..

and when the day came to an end we had to drag D out kicking and screaming.. :( I guess that means we need to go to the zoo more often.

  1. Welcome back! Glad all is well! I love the zoo. I'm always torn by the animals being in captivity, but for most of us that's the only time we will ever see them outside of a picture. They are beautiful and fascinating. Looks like you enjoyed your visit.

    1. Glad to be back! So many of these animals are endangered and only surviving in captivity.. as long as the enclosures are big and clean and the animals seem well treated I can make my peace.

  3. Welcome back! With a new baby and house to decorate, taking time off is natural, and good for the spirit. I'm glad you all had a good time. The zoo sounds humongous.
I see the window, but the big monkey photos are scary anyway. Yay for the camel ride! Years ago, I read a book ago about a women who trekked across Australia alone with camels. Your picture reminds me to add it to the re-read list

    1. So happy to be back, I was starting to feel a bit lost and incomplete..
I think they are making a movie about that. i distinctly recall seeing a trailer..
We laughed about our very tame camel ride. Back in Pakistan the beach is full of stinky camels giving rides. They sit down allowing you to climb aboard, do a light jog along the beach and sit back down so you can dismount. The camel sitting and rising is quite the thrill, I was hoping D would be able to experience it on our last trip.. things didn't really work out though.

  4. It is good though to have a break, but I agree it feels great to get back!
Such a fun day at the zoo. Clearly D had a good time. That monkey is very close, kind of odd fun and scary. Fun to ride a camel. Can't say I've done that. Making out eating each other...same thing!

    1. Great to be back! Lol.. It gets interesting explaining to your four year old what the bears are doing especially when he then wants to pretend to be a bear and do the same to you

It's funny how this zoo love has appeared in me as an adult, but I just love to see the animals. Each one is so majestic. I hope you all are feeling better, and happy Ramadan to you!

    1. Everyone but D was utterly exhausted! I was also very excited about taking D to the zoo.. On our first trip he had fallen asleep. This was the first time I think he completely understood the concept and had the most fun.
