Holy Month of Ramadan

Image
Last week we started the holy month of Ramadan. I posted a detailed post about Ramadan last year.. feel free to check it out here .  Today instead I wanted to share with you what I have been doing to prepare for Ramadan. The few days leading up to the month I made some snacks to eat during sehori (pre dawn meal) or after dinner when you get those late night munchies would don't want to end up eating a bag of chips. T hese are not official desi/muslim recipes it just what I made. The first thing I..well actually H did about 90% of the work so I should give him the credit, made was Banana Oatmeal Muffins . They tasted too healthy according to M. Will probably omit the oatmeal next time. I added peanut butter chip to them as well.    Next I made malai which is like a thick sweetened cream to be eaten with toast. There is a story to this one. Back in Pakistan you get raw cow's milk (pasteurized is also available and now more common) The milk needs to be boiled to make it drinkable.

Candytopia

We had tickets to a Rangers game this weekend.. we thought of going into the city a few hours earlier and spend some time there before the game.  We didn't want to wander too far away from that area so I found a candy themed exhibition a block away called Candytopia.  There were timed tickets you had to buy online and we were escorted in as a group. Just like in Legoland.. here everything was made out of candy. As you can see below, it took 13,000 pieces of candy and 48 hours to make this little fox. and they finished it all off with a marshmallow ball pit.  Not to mention all the free candy they got in every room, this is only some.. much of it was eaten. Afterwards we went to Madison Square Garden to watch the Rangers crush the Penguin in a 6-0 game. You can check out my Instagram for all our Rangers videos here.   Sunday was spent doing a lot of nothing..            Etsy             Instagram             Twitter                Redbubble               Zazzle               Soci

It's been a busy last few weeks but not much has happened really..  With school, extracurriculars and the heaps of homework D gets, even on weekends has been keeps our weekdays full.  My mom visited for two weeks, so that was nice. We tried out a new breakfast place while she was here. Our old go to best breakfast ever restaurant closed :( so we are trying to find a replacement.  M and I also went out on a breakfast date.. we had decided last month over our birthday breakfast that we were going to make this a monthly thing and well I guess we did it.. now let see how many months we can make it. We have no vacation plans till the summer.. so I am trying to focus I wanderlust on picking out some fun new destinations. What country or city is on your bucket list?  I have all our travel posts here  something to maybe get you inspired.  D had a map up in his room with pin for everywhere he has been.. there is still a lot of empty places.. so much still to see and explore. I finished my s

Read Across America

Last week was Read Across America week.        H's elementary school celebrated by getting a book vending machine. I cannot imagine anything cooler than this. Your teacher may award you with a coin for any sort of good behavior and then you get a free book!  They also had a 'dress like your favorite book character day'  He dressed up as Narwhal and his trusty sidekick Jelly from Ben Clanton's adorable books.. I highly recommend them. Not only did the kids love them but I loved reading them Speaking of kids books I thought I'd share some books recommended by the kids H's current faves are  Diary of a Wimpy Kid series created by author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney - because of the comedy Bad Kitty series by author Nick Bruel - because they are interesting Last Kids on Earth series by author Max Brallier - beaucase of the adventure he is a man of many words as you can see.. he actually is.. no mute button on this kid but he was not interested in my questions.  D'

Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios Synopsis - Grace wants out. Out of her house, where her stepfather wields fear like a weapon and her mother makes her scrub imaginary dirt off the floors. Out of her California town, too small to contain her big city dreams. Out of her life, and into the role of Parisian artist, New York director—anything but scared and alone. Enter Gavin: charming, talented, adored. Controlling. Dangerous. When Grace and Gavin fall in love, Grace is sure it's too good to be true. She has no idea their relationship will become a prison she's unable to escape. Thoughts - This was a very important read, a kind of It Ends with Us for young adults. It is so hard to identify being in an abusive relationship especially when you are dating some so hot and popular, charismatic, someone you should be lucky even noticed you. And once you realize you are in a bad relationship how do you get out of it? I enjoyed the book, like the way it was written in retrospect, the fut
