Thanksgiving in New York City

Hello everyone! Hope all those celebrating had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It is getting cold here.. and while our initial plan was to embrace our inner sloths and chill out on a beach somewhere we had to change up our plans with D not allowed to partake in any water related activates. It was a no brainer to head to the city instead.. But that also meant a lot of walking.. in such instances M is never without a good pair of insoles. He is such a fan he wears them all the time, they are the best insoles for standing all day.

The kids had a half day on Wednesday.. so once they got home we took a train into New York City. We spent the evening walking around downtown Manhattan. We choose to stay in the downtown area so that we could stay away from all the parade crowds. We grabbed a very not good meal, washed it down with some yummy Insomnia cookies and then walked along the Brooklyn Bridge at night.

Unfortunately, Thanksgiving morning was rainy. Not ideal for gallivanting around the city. We had a leisurely breakfast at Soho Diner.. hoping the rain would lessen.

It did not. We had no choice but to just suck it up. We walked around. Ducked into a few shops that were open.

I had learnt about a place called The Chess Forum and as D likes to play chess I thought we'd check it out. Thankfully it was open on Thanksgiving day.

It was a gem of a place.. there were only a few people there that day. They were Dutch and having a lively conversation with the owner.

Our next stop was Chelsea Market.. the Very Fresh Noodles is H's favorite meal and the line is always so long. Today was no exception. The market was packed. It was the perfect meal for a cold and rainy day.

Then we were off to the High Line Park. The rain had lessened to a light drizzle now. Yay.

The High Line ends at the Hudson Yards. Our next stop and a little refuge from the cold.

How cute are these? The phones can actually connect to your cell phone and function!

We continued on our way to Midtown. Headed to Bryant Park, strolled the holiday market and grabbed some hot chocolate.

and then we were off to dinner. We had a meal at Dos Caminos near Times Square. We've had better.

And then it was Friday. Friday was a busy day. We grabbed some bagels and coffee from Liberty Bagels and walked to the Museum of Ice Cream! The bagels were very good.

The Museum of Ice Cream was an activity requested by H and it was less museum and more pretty rooms with all you can eat ice cream. Not a diss just know what to expected before going.

With our brains buzzing with sugar we popped into The Evolution Store

and then The Strand

At 1pm we had tickets to watch Elf the Musical. This was our 13th Broadway show. You can check out the list and my thoughts on each here.

It was a great show.. very funny and with snow, a flying sleigh as well as Sean Astin as Santa Claus.

We went to John's Pizzeria for a late lunch and found it packed. We used to go to John's a lot in the early days but found it to be not as good as we remembered. Then we went towards Rockefeller. The tree had not been lit yet. :(

Some of my favorite 5th avenue displays. We didn't get to see Macy's but these were all very good.

Cartier

Louis Vuitton

Bergdorf

On Saturday we headed to Brooklyn. First we went to Tin Building by Jean-Georges to get some breakfast.

and then we were off

We walked around Dumbo. Got a view of both Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge from Pebble Beach.

Had some delicious spicy hot chocolate from Jacques Torres. Then we hopped on a ferry to Williamsburg. It was far too cold to take any pictures. We walked around Williamsburg. Grabbed some tacos and checked out out some thrift stores as well as Artists and Fleas. So many amazing vendors.

And then we found ourselves in a Yemeni coffee house.

While I would still choose a strong cup of black coffee this was so wonderful and aromatic.

We picked up some Levain cookies as we made our way to some cool very unique bookstores.

We ended the night with a fantastic korean bbq with old friends and their two kids. Perfect way to wrap up the day.

We woke up Sunday morning, ate breakfast at Clinton Baking Co and made our way back home wrapping up another wonderful though very cold trip.

Once again.. if I don't blog again this month then Happy Holidays and a Happier New Year.
