Thrifting and a Baby Bird
Hello June.
I was influenced by Jeanette over at Net on the Net and went to my first estate sale. I was driving home, saw the sign and made a spontaneous stop.
We also visited an annual sale hosted by a local historical society. We bought a little this and that. I haven't been very good about documenting our purchases.
We have a church just a couple of minutes away that holds thrift sales every Saturday expect during the winter. Most my donations go to them and it is also our most visited one.
The husband bought this and put it up on the window above the kitchen sink. It's been a week and no birds?! Not a single one has visited. There are plenty in our backyard but they don't seem to be fans of the feeder.
this week I snuck my phone in there again and..
We have spotted some other nests as well but they are out of my reach.
I wasn't really looking for anything.. and left empty handed.
I have bought more that a few things there but our best find yet? This $5 toaster. Mine was acting up and I had already ordered one (which I swiftly returned).
But in one of shrubs near our front door there is a nest. Last week I stuck my phone is to check on it and a baby.
We have spotted some other nests as well but they are out of my reach.
hm, we used to go garage sale shopping back in the day but haven't in years. I've never been to an estate sale, not sure I would want to go to one. The baby bird is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Those nest photos are just fantastic! I do like a good estate sale or yard/tag sale. Ones for charity make me feel especially good when I find something to buy. That bird. I am in awe!
ReplyDeleteI love estate sales and garage sales. I have some very cool and practical things I found at them. Maybe the birds can see you through the window - also, certain birds prefer certain types of seeds. Plus - spring means lots of insects so birds can be picky!
ReplyDeleteAwe, such a nice photo of the baby bird. So cute. I used to go to Estate sales when we lived in Florida but I'm more in the mindset now of not buying much at all.
ReplyDeleteHello! So nice to visit with you today! Such a sweet little baby bird. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI love how you are documenting the growth of the baby bird. :-) We did this a few years ago. We took photos each day to watch how they grew. We were able to capture the day they took their first fly.
ReplyDelete:-)
Sometimes the estate sales have interesting things and sometimes they don't. Better not to get things just to get things.
ReplyDeleteYou got a great deal on the toaster. How lovely to see the sweet baby bird 🐦
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends loves estate sales and is basically my personal book shopper henever she goes, because I am trying to collect the original Nancy Drew books for Eleanor. She really liked the tv show and I told her she needs the original and correct source material, lol. She has two sets of the first twenty books, but they're the newer publications, like from when we were kids, with the bright yellow hardcovers. She also loved the young Nancy Drew series when she was younger. It's amazing what you can find sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI like yard sales but don't see them very often around here
ReplyDeleteAwww, that baby bird is gorgeous! Don't worry about the feeder, it can take birds weeks to use them, just whe we think they're not going to use any new additions to the garden they turn up.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have estate sales here so it was fascinaiting to see what they're like! xxx
How sweet is the bird, looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI love those cute nest photos, the baby bird is adorable. We give away more than we are buying now, the estate sales are fun to explore. Happy June! Take care, enjoy your day!
Happy week ahead!
Aww cute little baby bird!

The baby bird photos are fascinating. I've gotten some good items at what we call "yard or garage sales". Sometimes people have items that are new or almost new that they just don't use. I got a $200 Breville juicer for $10- She used it twice and just didn't use in again in 5 years. Works perfectly.
ReplyDeleteSweet photos of the bird nests ~ yard sales are fun even if you don't buy anything ~
ReplyDeletethanks for commenting on my blog ~ Hugs ^_^
Looks like that baby bird is growing. :) How fun to be able to watch it all. Thanks for visiting my blog this week.
ReplyDeleteI've loved estate sales and garage sales since my teens. My apartment (and house before it) is furnished with the unique things you can't buy in stores anymore. Partly it's the thrill of the hunt and partly is because houses have more character when they have charming things. Like your toaster. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe only bird nest I know of every year is up high in one of my trees, it's a robin next. My family used to go to estate sales and auctions all the time. These days I try not to unless I need something for my library/school, as I have to get rid of the things I've collected myself over the years, lol. Thanks for sharing, those chairs in the one sale looked really cute!

Baby birds are exciting. We have a nest, but it's too high to see into. I'm not sure if the birds are still there or not.
ReplyDeleteLove the baby birds! We have a bluebird house and they have two or three sets of babies every summer. So fun to watch them grow and eventually fly. My in-laws loved estate sales and they had an eye for things. I didn't get that gene : )
ReplyDeleteEstate sales are fun. This one looked like a good one. Baby birds! So cute.
ReplyDeleteSiempre es bueno ayudar a los demás. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThrift sales are fun. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love stopping at thrift stores and yard sales. That jacket looks interesting and the painted chairs are fun.
ReplyDeleteAwwww! Such a sweet little baby bird.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Hena!
I hope you get a bird soon! My hummingbird feeder was so popular last summer and this summer I had one bird visiting it and now it has stopped! I'm so bummed!

I love thrift sale shopping and wish I had more time for estate and yard sales! It's such a treasure hunt!
ReplyDeletei am not a thrift store person. nothing against it, i just never got into the habit of visiting thrift stores or yard sales!! i donate everything i feel worthy to a church nearby. i have 2 birds nest on either end of my awning. the birds have chewed 4 huge holes in the awning. we replaced it 2 years ago because of the same problem, it was $ 2,000.00. they tell me it is a very common problem!!
ReplyDeleteLove that retro looking toaster! Oh, the baby bird! We get nests here too and it's so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI'm no good at buying stuff from sales, but they're interesting to visit sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI found it took a bit before our birds felt "safe" enough to come to our window feeder but once they did we started going through seed like crazy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I was able to influence you to go to an estate sale. They are fun even if you don't find anything to buy! Love the baby bird! Hang in there with the bird feeder! They will find it eventually and then you will be refilling it constantly!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blog
ReplyDeleteI hope the baby bird will be all right & get to be an adult ... they seem so vulnerable. You are having pretty days there at the outdoor estate sales ... much to look at. And a good toaster!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet babe! They grow so fast! Solid catch on that toaster! I don't visit sales as often as I used to but try to have something in mind when I do. There are times, however, when the right thing just jumps out at me and I take it home :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the title of this post - instant intrigue! LOL. Love the baby bird pictures, too. So ugly and so cute. Ha!
ReplyDeleteThe toaster looks great! I'd like to do more thrifting this summer.
ReplyDeleteAww, what a sweet baby bird! :D
ReplyDeleteHow delightful to see those baby birds. Looks like a fun day looking around. I need to get rid of a few things around here.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to an estate sale, but I do love to go to thrift shops when we travel. It's always fun to see what treasures you can come across there.
ReplyDeleteWell, I enjoyed this post very much, as it has some of my favorite things - yard sales, estate sales, and birds. That black jacket with the gold trim is unique and pretty. I don't visit too many estate sales, but they are always having yard sales around here. I'm glad you got a pic of those baby birds, and one of them surely looks hungry. I hope the birds come around at the feeder by your kitchen window. And be sure to show us any items you bring home. I love yard sales! ; )
ReplyDeleteOh, I would have loved those little Latin-flavored chairs at the estate sale. So cute. Just my style!! Great deal on the toaster, looks like brand new. Give the feeder some time and I bet the birds discover it although maybe they are afraid of their reflections in the glass of the window?
ReplyDeleteSuper duper captures of the babies in the nest. I guess baby, singular. It was big baby!!
I don't really like rummage/estate sales. I feel I'm just buying stuff I really don't need. That toaster is a good deal though! It's hard to find a good toaster. Birds are always nervous about anything new in a garden and it may be a while before they are brave enough to try a feeder so close to a house. They usually like feeders near a tree or bush so they can stop there first to make sure it's safe to go to the feeder. The bird babies in the nest is so cute!
ReplyDeleteAww, the baby bird <3
ReplyDeleteI have not been ro any sells yet this year. you never know when you are going to come across a gem :). Awww baby birds, so fun to watch them grow!
ReplyDeleteWow neat finds! I’m impressed by the jar of buttons. Was that really $100? That’s what they were asking for that??
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...I LOVE thrifting! You came across some great finds! And the baby bird is precious.
