Maui, Hawaii part 2
Hello May?
Continuing with our Maui adventure.
Day 8
Since our day spent on the Road to Hana involved a very very early wake up, the next day we woke up with no alarms. We are generally early risers but we took the time to just lay in bed and relax. Once we were up we headed to Whalers Village.
Whalers Village is a shopping and food area nestled in the midst of the line of resorts in Kaanapali. We got in the long Island Vintage line to grab some breakfast. While Whalers Village was convenient it did not have a lot of options and we missed the endless choices available to us in Waikiki.
We took our treats and had breakfast on the beach.. and H in a tree. Then we walked a bit on the beach before it was time to board our boat for a snorkel and whale watching tour.
I can not rave enough about this trip. This little dude above did not want to get out of the water. I am not big on snorkeling and stayed on the boat. I should have gone in.. I could have but I chickened out. The crew was incredible.
They had an underwater photographer on board who took some shots of the boys underwater
Once everyone was out of the water we were treated to a delicious lunch and we set of to find some whales.
Every year thousands of North Pacific humpbacks migrate about 3,000 miles from Alaska to the warm, shallow Maui Nui Basin to mate and give birth. Making it one of the longest mammal migrations on Earth.
The population has recovered from near extinction to over 11,000 in the Central North Pacific.
Humpbacks do almost all their feeding in nutrient-rich Alaskan waters during the summer. While in Maui’s low-nutrient tropical waters, they do not eat at all, living entirely off their stored blubber.
While we did not see the whales breaching.. we did see many tales and fins and misty spurts from their blowholes.
The population has recovered from near extinction to over 11,000 in the Central North Pacific.

Breakfast on the beach sounds amazing. Your photos are absolutely stunning. Thank you so much for sharing.

Oh, that last photo of you watching the gorgeous sunset -- that's a keeper!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like it was a lot of fun to be able to swim and then see the whales. All of the photos are amazing but the last one of you with the sunset is just stunning. You need to frame that one.
ReplyDeleteA sailing charter would be just my cuppa tea, especially if it included swim time. Is that oatmeal nestled into a cantaloupe? It make for a fun serving presentation if so. And that last photo -- I gasped. It is so beautiful and what a wonderful memory of your trip.
ReplyDeleteI love that last photo of you. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great adventure, I loved the underwater photos of the fellas.
That sunset is incredible and loving the photos of you all snorkeling. I have a simiar photo of me with my family!

This sounds like a great day, though I wouldn't not have gotten in the water to snorkel. I'm glad H provided that Titanic reference! Those last two photos are stunning.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time on that trip.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that whale watching doesn't always mean you'll get to see whales, so congrats on getting to see parts of whales. I'm sure that was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI think you had fun!
ReplyDeleteWow what a sunset .... and a great catamaran adventure ..... The snorkeling looks very impressive. I wonder if I'd be brave enough to go in. Not sure. But your boys did well !
ReplyDeleteHawaii has the best rainbows and sunsets! So beautiful!

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see the whales in their natural habitat! The boys looked like they were having the time of their lives and I love the photo of you at sunset! xxx
ReplyDeleteThis captures that perfect balance between adventure and quiet moments, especially the calm of just sitting and watching the whales. It’s easy to picture how special that silence must have felt out on the water.
ReplyDeleteI’m dreaming of being in Hawaii right now. Thanks for the visual joy. God bless you.

I love how you captured both the adventure and the relaxing island vibe. It makes me want to pack my bags and experience it all myself!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteMaui is one of my favorite islands. It is fun to go whale watching, my hubby loves to snorkel.
Beautiful views, the sunset is gorgeous. Take care, enjoy your day!
The sailing tour does look fun! I'd probably not go in the water though either. Staying on the boat and seeing the beauty from there would be "close enough" for me. ;) Gorgeous photos, as always.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are always so beautiful. I especially love the last one.
ReplyDeleteThe snorkeling looks fun for the kids. The sunsets are incredible. I like the picture of your son in the tree. What a fantastic time spent in Maui. Maui is my dear friend's second home. ; )
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day! My best travel memories happened on boats.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome to be able to see the whales!
ReplyDeleteWow that does look like it was a very interesting and fun day, neat they could get pics of the boys in the water. Beautiful way to end the day for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe snorkeling pictures are so cute! And LOVE the colors in the sunset!!

ReplyDeleteWow photography '~ especially the snorkeling ones and you watching the sunset ~ what a life you lead ~ Hugs ^_^
ReplyDeleteI love that first photo you started out with. The joy in your photos is catching. I smiled all the way through, with everyone enjoying this spectacular vacation. Those underwater shots were amazing. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope to get back to Maui one day. I will keep my fingers crossed :)
ReplyDeleteThe boat looks like such a wonderful time! And how cool that they had an underwater photographer. Love the sunset picture at the end too. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteEven without the dramatic breaching, that still sounds like an unforgettable whale encounter. There’s something magical about spotting those giant tails, fins, and the mist from their blowholes rising over the water. I also loved the detail about how humpbacks survive entirely on stored blubber while in Maui — nature is incredible. Your description really captures the quiet excitement of watching these majestic animals in their natural world.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful that they offer underwater photographers. Such a fun memory to capture!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteWe did a fun catamaran when we were in Hawaii last and it was fun! The sunset is amazing! Looks like a wonderful excursion!
ReplyDeleteIs that oatmeal in a papaya? Looks divine. And would love a bite of the avocado and sprout business. How nice to have breakfast beachside. Love that there was an underwater photographer on your excursion. Great photos!! I really enjoy snorkeling and have tried to take photos underwater with very little luck. Glorious sunset for the cherry on top of a beautiful day.
