Eid Mubarak!

We celebrated Eid last week. What a wonderful month it was. While bodily you feel exhausted it is fulfilling and deeply satisfying in all other ways. I am happy it is over and I can drink my coffee again and get a full nights sleep but I also miss it already.

For those of you not in the know.. above is some basic facts about Eid. I posted a more detailed post about it a few years ago which you can check out here and I am always open to any questions you may have.

Traditionally the four of us always go out for a big breakfast on Eid morning after our Eid prayers.

On Eid instead of gifts, Eidi is given. Adults give children an Eidi (money). It extends to adult sons giving their parents an eidi, parents giving their adult daughters eidi's and adult brothers giving their sisters eidi's as well. Historically, women did not work or have their own money so an Eidi was a way for women to get financial freedom and the ability to save or spend the money any way she chose. It is a tradition most still follow today.

As the kids were already raking in $$$ we took them book shopping instead.

It has been interesting watching their taste in books change.. the One Piece books are for the younger one and the older one and I have some overlap now. So we get to discuss.. which is always fun.

On the second day of Eid we hosedt family. Once upon a time it was just the four of us.. but in the past few years M has had three cousins and their families move to our state and it has been so nice having more family nearby.

Don't have many pictures as I was sick.. and the first guests showed up before I had even changed and while it may have started chaotic.. we all had a wonderful time.. laughed so hard my head hurt.. literally. Eldest got a ton of love.. or torture..

On the third day of Eid we got dressed up yet again.. Every year is different.. sometimes Eid passes by with such little festivities it makes us a little sad.. this year is filled to the brim and I need a nap.

By the time we got in bed it was past midnight.. we were wiped. But it was nice hanging out with friends.. reminiscing about times past and making plans for the future.

Sunday we woke up with leisure. Had a quick bite and then headed to New York. We had tickets to a Rangers game. M got these back when we didn't know our Eid weekend was going to be so busy. It was nice being just the four of us.

The game went into overtime.. and then there was a shootout and well we still lost but it was a good game.

And so came to end the festivities and I welcome the routine of a Monday.

  26. Glad to know what to wish my Muslim family - Eid Mubarak. And interested to learn that this holy time shifts by several days each year. I remember the year my daughter married her husband Mustafa, the family was just finishing the fasting of Ramadan and everyone was especially excited for the wedding meal!!
It is nice to have family close on the holidays. I think they become even more meaningful. My daughter was here this past weekend with her children. When we would do something extra fun (or crazy), she would say we were giving the kids a CORE MEMORY. Love that idea!!
