A Month Later

Hello everyone... Ramadan is over and it was an interesting experience.. we missed the hustle and bustle of the masjid, we missed seeing our friends.. but there was also a lot more calm.. there was lot less rushing to get ready, rushing to the masjid.. there was a lot less sleep deprivation.. the no waking up for the school bus really helped things. But there was also the monotony.. that was a little depressing.. So here's to a very uneventful Eid I guess..

and

Speaking of depressing.. we are into week 12 of quarantine. While some things have opened.. New Jersey has still kept a tight reign over things.. not that I am ready for things to open.. I don't think I am ready to go to a restaurant or the mall. Our school have officially closed for the rest of the school year... which is a good thing..

While our first month or so passed pretty smoothly the last few weeks have been harder on me. I am having more sad days.. we have had a few behavioral issues with the boys pop up.. tears come to my eyes a lot quicker that they would naturally. It's hard.. with sadness also comes anger.. I can not comprehend the stupidity and hatred of some people out there.. the selfishness.. that's when social media turns into a scary place.. But there are also some wonderful people out there going above and beyond.. I stumbled upon Some Good News with John Krasinski which I think is such a great place to get some good news and cry some happy tears.

Boy has this post been a bumper.. but I know that there are many many people out there feeling just like me.. and well, you are not alone.

Hope you all are hanging in there.. sending virtual hugs!

  2. Oh Hena, I'm sorry you are having a tough time, I cannot imagine being shut down with little ones, there is no room for self care when you're a mom it seems. I'm praying for you! Happy Eid Mubarak! Our state is slowly opening, I'm tired of being home but I don't want to be with strangers. Our son came to visit and is visiting again this weekend (his birthday!) he is moving to be a prof at Purdue Univ in July so I try to stay six feet away while enjoying being with him and his girlfriend before the move. I don't know when I'll see my daughter who is in Delaware with different restrictions. Every day is a day closer to being done (so I hope!).

  3. Yes, it's a bit depressing but we should remain positive. You are right that we are not alone, there are many many people out there feeling like us.

  4. You are definitely not alone! I'm having sad days too, they seem to come and go in batches. As I'm hypersensitive, I tend to be a bit of a crybaby at the best of times, but sometimes it is so hard to stay positive. Here in Belgium, our shops have all re-opened (although no pubs or restaurants) but I don't think I'll be going shopping any time soon. We've only been to the local garden centre, which is peaceful and safe. You are right in that people can be quite selfish and stupid. I think it's very frustrating. Do keep safe, and sane, Hena! Eid Mubarak! xxx

  6. It's good to see you back and I'm glad you were able to appreciate Ramadan from a different perspective this year. Most of Lent and all of Eastertide has been in the midst of this and it's definitely been different for me.

I think many, if not most of us can relate to your feelings. Staying away from toxic social media (and some mainstream media!!) is definitely a good thing. I'm glad you're looking for the positives, instead. I'm trying to do the same! Hang in there, Hena!

  7. It has been so hard for many Hena, and it's good to share. Since our area has opened up some, it's been like hope has been restored.

  8. These are unprecedented times and it can be emotionally taxing but it's better to stay in and be safe than venture out prematurely.

  10. I have tough days too, but they pass and there are good days too! I agree, I'm not rushing out to a restaurant or mall even when we open up but I'm happy to see that we are slowly starting to open things again. Sending virtual hugs back to you!

  12. awww, i am sorry this has been so hard for you!! having children and being younger, i think makes it harder!! i am older and my life has not changed that much. i miss our trips but i am also ok with being home. if i had 2 young, school aged children, i might feel differently!!

i have enjoyed the quieter pace, having the hubs all to myself...it has been quite relaxing. i am sending out postcards, if you would like one, send me your address - stangs6@hotmail.com!!!

  14. Happy Eid.
I am pretty certain that people the world over relate to your sadness, your tears, and your anger.
    Stay safe, stay well.
And yes, I am soooo not ready to go to restaurants or to the mall.

  15. Hena, Toronto is the same as NY/NJ...a lot of places are still closed and school is out for the year as well. Girl, I totally understand what you're going through. For awhile, I couldn't even really blog as the whole thing. I lost my voice (still having issues with it), and being with the kids 24/7 for weeks on end is really something I wasn't quite prepared for...LOL...but yeah, it's something we just have to deal with, and I would rather be in the house than be with the stupid people out there who don't believe in wearing masks and social distancing:(

  16. Sorry you've had some rough days. I think those especially with younger kids and those working from home feel the pressure more. My husband seems to be working more now that he's mostly remote; I know he's tired but he looks forward to his three-day weekends.
My teen and tween each have a friend who celebrated Ramadan. It helped that they didn't have to wake up for school so they were waking up in the early afternoon and going to sleep in the wee hours of the morn.

  17. I can understand where you are coming from! States around us are opening, but Illinois has been pretty closed down still. It's been getting hard lately some days for me too. I miss socializing!

  18. Social distancing during Eid Mubarak is strange over here in Malaysia. I miss the festivity and food!

Today is Day 72 of our semi-quarantine though many restrictions have been lifted. I am still not ready to dine in a restaurant!

Hang in there, pally! All this will be behind us soon.

    ((hugs))

  20. We've been locked down pretty tight too but our state is opening some things up tomorrow. As much as I want to, I don't think I'm ready to go out to restaurants yet either. Hang in there!

  22. Oh Yes, my friend, I understand your thoughts and concerns, and thank you for sharing your emotions with us. Although they are starting to re-open the state here, you won't see me going to any restaurants, shops, etc, anytime soon. And you're right, there are people out there that have gone above and beyond, and I am grateful for them. Such wonderful people in our midst. And such foolish ones too. ; )

  23. It is definitely a strange and sometimes difficult time. My husband and I had a similar conversations about movies, malls, and restaurants, and I don't think either of us will be ready to go out into that kind of setting anytime soon.
