Christmas Getaway

Happy New Year!! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.. we had a great December. It had the perfect amount of festivities and time spent at home relaxing. Before I do a look back and round up the year I want to share with you our little Christmas getaway. 

We took the boys up to Camelback Mountain Resort and Indoor Water Park. It was a great time.. we splashed around.. took a ski lesson and then hit the slopes. D was a natural.. H not so much.. but of course that's understandable..he's still little. Mr's Claus told stories, we ate pizza in our room while watching holiday movies.. here's a photo dump.

The water park reminds me of Great Wolf Lodge which my kids love:) And so jealous you guys got to take ski lessons. I've been meaning to do that every Christmas break but just never found the time...sigh....

It looks like a fab holiday! Snow can be so much fun. I used to ski a lot (being Swiss, I could ski before I could walk, almost), but not anymore. I like to make snow angels in the snow instead :-)

When the wall between our family room and kitchen see details here came down we had to deal with two different flooring, old carpet and newish laminate. The plan was to find the same laminate.. we found the box in the basement, how hard could it be? Harder than we thought.. that particular one had been discontinued.. and finding something similar was not an easy task..  Finding a flooring that was kind of close but not close enough would seem like a mistake.. so we decided to go different, this way it would seem like an intentional design choice.. I had always wanted a chocolaty dark floor.. The next thing to take into consideration was the transition between the two floors.. generally what is used it a T- Moulding, that strip you see in the above picture connecting the two floors together. D's Amazing Race Party

Last weekend our eldest turned 9.. and we threw him an amazing race birthday party! As with all the boys other parties.. I bought a plain white cake from Wegmans and let D decorate it himself. We had a total of nine kids.. they picked bandanna's out of a bag to create 3 teams. First Task Not all the kids knew each other.. they were too amped up with the idea of winning that they couldn't manage to calm down and read the clue.. so we had to really guide them through it.. they made mistakes and we let it go.. it seemed a tad chaotic..  Second Task I had 33 little medicine cups filled with M&M's and Goldfish crackers.. 6 of them had stickers on the bottom. The first two teams found the sticker in the first try... what are the odds!? And the third team had to eat a lot of snacks before they finally found their sticker.
