I Love You Stinky Face

As a book lover the moment D was born.. even before that I was planning all the books we were going to read, first me to him then us together.. I have all the Harry Potter books on my shelf waiting for D to turn seven.. eight so that we can read them together.. follow each book with the movie. Of course we started with the simpler Goodnight Moon, Chika Chika Boom Boom and similar. M's boss at the time sent us a basket full of books.. :) Since then we have read countless books.. some over and over again.. and some not so much. We make regular trips to the library and when we run out of new books we reread the old..

A few weeks ago we reread I Love You Stinky Face


and while I always loved this book it got very little love from D until now. He was now old enough to understand it's meaning.. After reading it he let out an enormous bugger filled sneeze and when I called him bugger face he asked me.. 'but you still love me right?'

What was interesting was not just that he finally got the book but that something as simple as me calling him a bugger face would cause him to question my love for him.

We LOVE I Love You Stinky Face. But our all time favorite has been Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb. I always add in my own little voices which daddy can't do. So it makes me cooler. :)

Kids say the funniest things! That is precious:) We will have to check out that book. So far Micah likes eating books more than reading them, but we really like to read Olivia to him;)

D is adorable! I don't think we've ever read this book. We have so many favorites. Books are one thing I'm happy to spend some money on, it's great to have a big collection to enjoy.

Oh so cute! And he has connected with it, which I'm sure is just so fun! I love children's books and some of these oldies are goodies!
If you haven't already tried him, check out Mo Willems. He's one of my favorite new(er) authors.

We love this book too and have it on our bookshelves. Lately I have been very bad about borrowing books from the library so we have been reading from our own collection. Since it's Dr. Seuss month, we have been reading that. We really like Yertle the Turtle.

That is adorable. I don't have any kids, but my favorite book as a kid was Tawny Scrawny Lion. My sisters and I use to pester my mom until she would read it to us!

I've never read this one with the kiddos before...thanks for the heads up. My youngest daughter really loves anything by Robert Munsch, but my boys loved anything with dinosaurs (and still do:))

We read through Where the Sidewalk Ends once.. i think he was too young for most of the poems.. we'll try again in a year or two. He is more at the Mother Goose stage.

I am waiting until my nephew gets a little older before I send I Love You Stinky Face to him but I know he will love it. An old family favorite around here is The Monster at the End of the Book. I also adore Plant a Kiss and the Day the Crayons Quit

When the wall between our family room and kitchen see details here came down we had to deal with two different flooring, old carpet and newish laminate. The plan was to find the same laminate.. we found the box in the basement, how hard could it be? Harder than we thought.. that particular one had been discontinued.. and finding something similar was not an easy task..  Finding a flooring that was kind of close but not close enough would seem like a mistake.. so we decided to go different, this way it would seem like an intentional design choice.. D's Amazing Race Party

Last weekend our eldest turned 9.. and we threw him an amazing race birthday party! As with all the boys other parties.. I bought a plain white cake from Wegmans and let D decorate it himself. We had a total of nine kids.. they picked bandanna's out of a bag to create 3 teams. First Task Not all the kids knew each other.. they were too amped up with the idea of winning that they couldn't manage to calm down and read the clue.. so we had to really guide them through it.. they made mistakes and we let it go.. it seemed a tad chaotic..  Second Task I had 33 little medicine cups filled with M&M's and Goldfish crackers.. 6 of them had stickers on the bottom. The first two teams found the sticker in the first try... what are the odds!? And the third team had to eat a lot of snacks before they finally found their sticker.
