lately - social distancing

So after a week of social distancing I am happy to report to say we are all good.

The kids had a week of remote learning. Thank God for the internet, WIFI and Google Classroom. It made the whole process so much easier for the 4th grader and while school work is easier for the Kindergartner.. with so many apps and games but it is much harder to keep him focused and on task. But by the end of the week we had gotten a better hang of the whole situation.. phew.

M has been working from home as well.. we have turned off all alarms.. we have always been morning people so we're up between 8am - 9am.. have breakfast as a family. Before he used to leave just when we were starting to wake up.. with just enough time for a quick good bye.

Before M used to get home after 7pm.. followed by a quick dinner and bed time.. now he wraps up before 6pm. With the weather warming up M and the boys play outside.. (I sprained my knee so no playing for me)

With no alarms everyday is a movie night or game night..

They kids are also reading (the libraries have also closed - i don't know what we are going to do without the books) We are working on puzzles.. and making crafts..

And while I now have no me time.. unfortunately I am not filling my days with Netflix and books.. It has been an interesting experience. We are not on each others nerves just yet.. we are getting the family time we always talk about but never have time for.

Do not get me wrong I am not taking the virus lightly.. we are just trying to stay sane in confinement. We want nothing more than this horrendous situation done with.. M and I read the news and watch the videos and try not to freak out.. we are trying to make this abnormal situation as normal as possible.

If you are looking for ways to help there are some great charities out there that need all the help they can get. No Kid Hungry and Feeding America are two I like.

  5. your library card can get you ebooks for the kids (and if you don't have a card many libraries are allowing for online sign up) My daughter mentioned that her husband's quality of life has improved with this virus because he can work remotely from home and has no contact with a fellow coworker who caused stress. I don't think you are taking the virus lightly. Focusing on the positive is what will help us get through this ordeal. I'm glad you and your family are well.

  6. It looks like you're making the best of the situation and the extra family time is a bonus. Both of my daughters are here and working remotely. I'm happy to have the extra time with them but it's not always easy.

  7. Although I've been doing it, we are beginning a state wide official Shelter at Home today. All businesses except non-essential will be closed. I expect a run at the grocery.

I love what you are doing as a family.

    Take care.

  8. Hello!
And we are joining you in staying home and safe.
We homeschool, so not much has changed there.
But we are slowing down too.
I hope you and your lovely family stay safe, cozy, and healthy.

  9. Our local library system uses "Libby" and they have a wide selection of children's books. Maybe the boys can read that way.

Looks like lots of fun activities at your house. I hope you heal quickly and can join in the outside fun soon. My morning walks (in the rain today) help me stay sane. ;)

  10. You're doing brilliantly at keeping boredom at bay and make the most of this unprecedented situation. It's hard not to freak out, so I am certainly keeping my news intake at a minimum. Take care of yourself and your lovely family, Hena. xxx

  11. I loved your post today.
You are living and doing what all Americans should be doing now.
Staying in - doing homework - loving family time - and social distancing.

I have a teenager here so it has been nearly impossible to do this. I am doing it for what good that does - and no one is coming in, but his girlfriend (??) but I don't feel we are doing a great job like you.

    Congrats.

Thank God for the internet, WIFI and Google Classroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. We have stopped our alarms mostly as well. I have mine set for 5 minutes before I have to work. I get up, log on and then slowly get up and going. Ha. The girls have been going to bed around the normal-ish time (within a half hour) and getting up like they do on the weekends. It is tough, but we are hanging in there. Love the movie nights, and outdoors time!

  14. It sounds like you are doing a really good job adjusting to staying at home with the little ones. I always like to see the drawings of children - it says a lot. Your child's drawing is filled with color, and a rainbow! You are a good mom and you are making a safe home for your children. I have basketball players in my family, so the basketball picture made me smile. : ) What a special post.

  16. We started online school today and I think it went well. My son is in 8th and I felt he didn't need much help, my 5th grader needed a lot more help. I think a lot of it was just getting her set up and going with the whole Google Classroom, etc. I think each day will go smoother!! My husband and I are working on a 2,000 piece jigsaw puzzle! I worry and wonder when things will all go back to normal, too. I'm a planner, not having an end date is so hard for me.

  25. Yes we are living in trying times for sure. It is hard to stay positive sometimes. All we can do is take one day at time. At least you guys have an outdoor space so many families do not. And wow what a lovely room the children have, so nice!!

  28. It's great that you're having such a positive time together as a family. I hope that this whole scary situation might at least have the silver lining of people re-establishing such personal connections and maintaining them as a priority once all the rest is past.

  29. Looks like you've come up with a lot of fun activities for your family while social distancing. The e-learning has been an interesting experience in my house too since I'm working from home full time and trying to keep my son on task. Thankfully we're starting to get into a routine with it as well.

  32. This is such a relatable day in the life! I've seen a lot of posts from people about all the extra time and things you can do when isolating but with the kids at home I have to support their learning, while also working from home, and keeping them quiet so hubby can work from home...it's an interesting world but it is nice not having to rush anywhere!

Hope that you had a great weekend! :) We had a quiet one at home of course!
