Lindt Chocolate Factory in Zurich
Switzerland is the home of Lindt Chocolate. The Swiss chocolatier and confectionery company was founded in 1845. The Headquarters and Factory are in Kilchberg which is a municipality of Zurich.
We left Wengen and arrived in Zurich around noon.. but more on Zurich later.
The Lindt Home of Chocolate welcomes visitors with an impressive chocolate fountain, standing over thirty feet tall. The seemingly weightless construction holds 900 pounds of real chocolate. Mmm.. the whole place smelled like chocolate.
It was a 50 minute class. We had a Lindt Master Chocolatier taught us about how to melt chocolate, pour it into a die in our to make our own bars and then we decorated them. While we waited for them to set and harden we watched an informational video about how Lindt sources it's cocoa and all the steps it takes to become Lindt Chocolate.
We left Wengen and arrived in Zurich around noon.. but more on Zurich later.
We had wanted to go to the Lindt Chocolate Factory.. a cousin of mine had gone earlier and done a chocolate making course and that is what we were most interested in doing. We had made our own chocolate bars at the Hershey Factory in Pennsylvania many many years ago. But the Lindt experience promised to be more hands on.
We were not going to be in Zurich for many days and they were nearly sold out but luckily we were able to find a few spots on our day of arrival. We took a bus from Zurich Lake to Kilchberg.

There was an interactive chocolate tour but we skipped it in exchange for the chocolate making class.
Afterwards our bars were ready, we removed them from the die's and packaged them, ready to take home.
A fascinating post, love the photos too! I love Lindt chocolate -- it is the BEST. When I was a little girl in 1960s Canada, our relatives in Switzerland would mail us parcels with Lindt chocolates in them. At that time, Lindt brand was not available in Canada (or probably in North America either). What an exquisite treat those chocolates were! We would even save the packaging they came in because they were so exotic. Now of course we can buy Lindt chocolate EVERYWHERE. Still love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful experience. So good to see and read about the adventure.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing!

Oh how fun this must have been! Lindt is my favorite chocolate even though I live close to Hershey PA!
DeleteWhat a fun experience! Love all of your pictures. Lindt is truly the BEST chocolate. I remember my Grandparents bringing it back to us from Switzerland in the 70's before I think it was here in the US> I cans still remember tasting it for the first time.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that?!?! Lindt knows how to make chocolate. We do not buy them a lot, usually for holidays or other special occasions, but they are one of our favorites!
ReplyDeleteyou visit the most amazing places, you don't need to have a sweet tooth to enjoy this place!! awesome pictures of the family, and memories that will last a lifetime!!
ReplyDeleteLove Lindt chocolate. That visit looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun!! I'm not really a chocoholic, but I'd still love to see and do that. I remember a place with a huge chocolate fountain in Las Vegas, but this one has it beat by a long shot!
ReplyDeleteYum!!! This sounds such fun! I have loved all chocolate museum tours that I've done over the years and Lindt is delicious! Sadly we are not visiting Zurich on our forthcoming Swiss trip otherwise I'd be tempted by this! Thanks for visiting my blog! Kezzie

ReplyDeleteHello! What an absolutely amazing experience! You are the most fun family! Thanks for sharing. You can make chocolate for me anytime!
ReplyDeleteTwice I've asked about a job making chocolate locally, first many years ago and then just a few months past. The shop doesn't see a lot of employee turnover. ~grin~ I'm so happy your lovely family enjoyed this experience
ReplyDeleteA chocolate making class definitely sounds even cooler than a tour since you get a hands on experience.Your boys must've loved it.
ReplyDeleteOoohhh!!! Plenty of delicious aromas and flavors to savor here -- this looks like a a lot of fun! Bet your kids loved it!
ReplyDeleteLindt chocolate is a favorite of mine. What a wonderful chocolate fountain that is! How cool that you got to take a class about melting the chocolate and making your own bars. Every Christmas, I get a bag of Lindt chocolate balls for my son, as he loves them. This was a fun experience for your family, and that chocolate shop! I could browse in there for a long time. This is a cute picture of all you at the class. ; )

**thanks for sharing your story about the deer. It is so special that they come up to your porch, even when you are sitting out there. One came to my porch, but didn't stay long, and they always seem to trot off back to the woods if many people are around.
This looks like a great place to visit.
ReplyDeleteI like Lindt chocolate it is quite nice, seeing inside a chocolate factory would be pretty nice
