Strawberry Picking
Happy Memorial Day to my US friends.
This long weekend was a complete wash out... it rained all day, every day.
The kids had an extra snow day so the school gave them Friday off as well. There were a couple of rain free hours on Friday morning so we squeezed in a quick strawberry picking trip at a local farm.
I also made ice cream and pureed a bunch and froze them as ice cubes to be used in futures juices, I love a good strawberry lemonade.

This was our first time strawberry picking. We unintentionally ended up with 8lbs of strawberries. So now began the task of how to use all these strawberries.
I made pancakes
and milkshakes
And now we have just a bowl full left to eat. They were absolutely delectable.
Freshly pickled berries must be very fresh, sweet and juicy!
ReplyDeleteGo back for more and make jam, LOL!
ReplyDeleteThey sure look delicious and what fun to go pick them yourselves. If you can't use them up in time you could freeze them for smoothies. :)
ReplyDeletewhat fun! I took our kids once to strawberry pick and I remember my son eating a lot of them...I cannot remember what I did with them! Did I make jam? I cannot recall.
ReplyDeleteStrawberries here won’t be ready for another month or so. It looks like you had great family fun. We always pick strawberries with our daughter and the kids and we always over pick too. They get eaten though.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go strawberry picking!

Yum, yum!! Looks like you did a good job of using most of them. I agree with those who've said jam is a good option. Now I'm craving some fresh strawberries....
ReplyDeleteSorry the hear Memorial weekend was a total washout. We had an extended weekend last week and it was exactly the same! I'm glad to hear you've managed to squeeze in a fun activity on Friday. Oh my, that's quite a lot of strawberries you guys picked! xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time you all had at the strawberry farm. Cute pictures of the kids. The pancakes look delicious, and the ice cream looks so good too. Strawberry jam is a favorite. I just bought some fresh strawberries at the store for the first time this Spring. Thank you for your sweet comment on my Memorial Day post. : )

I love strawberry picking but we only did it once in a small farm up in the highlands. The farm you went to is really big! Strawberry milkshake sounds wonderful.

So frustrating when it rains all weekend, but good you were able to enjoy the day before and go strawberry picking! We haven't been for a while but last time we went we were so excited as I thought I had a lot of strawberries. Keeping some for us to eat and then making the rest into smoothies I realised we probably should have picked more, they didn't last long, haha! But the kids had a great time anyway :)
ReplyDeleteHope your week is going well :)

It was cold and rainy all weekend here too. Glad you were able to at least get some strawberry picking in. Looks like the boys had fun and those berries and everything you made with them look delicious!
ReplyDeleteThose strawberries look fabulous and what a great activity to do with the kids. My strawberry crop isn't quite so ripe yet but coming along.
ReplyDeleteThe strawberries look beautiful, and the boys look so excited to pick strawberries from the trees.
ReplyDeleteThe strawberry smoothie is mouthwatering!
What a fun, fruit picking trip. Send us your rain girlfriend. California is in drought again.
