Chug a Chug Chug - In the fall 2008 we took a beautiful road trip through New England.. for those who don't know that is North East part of America including Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. If you haven't had the chance to travel through New England during autumn I suggest you add it to your list.. it is stunning. On one of our stops in Connecticut we took a trip in an old steam train in Essex. It was idyllic. It reminded me of the time when trains were one of the essential modes of transportation.. and every now and then the train would let out a little tut, it was enchanting.

    Beautiful shot! I agree! New England in the fall is amazing. I went to college in New Hampshire, and it was my favorite time of year. The colors just glow. Gorgeous!

    Fantastic photo. Last year, my eldest's grade level went on to Sacramento. The railroad museum was our last stop. I was like, eh. Then we went invade and I got to see up close the enormous trains from the past. Damn they're gorgeous.

    I love New England, I've seen it through the spring but never in Autumn. A cousin of mine gifted my a coffee table book of New England photography in the autumn. Golds and reds, it was so dreamy. I'm yearning to go back and see it in all its glory.

Kitchen and Family Room: New Flooring

When the wall between our family room and kitchen see details here came down we had to deal with two different flooring, old carpet and newish laminate. The plan was to find the same laminate.. we found the box in the basement, how hard could it be? Harder than we thought.. that particular one had been discontinued.. and finding something similar was not an easy task..  Finding a flooring that was kind of close but not close enough would seem like a mistake.. so we decided to go different, this way it would seem like an intentional design choice.. I had always wanted a chocolaty dark floor.. The next thing to take into consideration was the transition between the two floors.. generally what is used it a T- Moulding, that strip you see in the above picture connecting the two floors together. Not the prettiest option. Pinterest to the rescue..  Adding tile to the mix would help to blend the two different brown together and there would be no awkward bump in the floori

D's Amazing Race Party

Last weekend our eldest turned 9.. and we threw him an amazing race birthday party! As with all the boys other parties.. I bought a plain white cake from Wegmans and let D decorate it himself. We had a total of nine kids.. they picked bandanna's out of a bag to create 3 teams. First Task Not all the kids knew each other.. they were too amped up with the idea of winning that they couldn't manage to calm down and read the clue.. so we had to really guide them through it.. they made mistakes and we let it go.. it seemed a tad chaotic..  Second Task I had 33 little medicine cups filled with M&M's and Goldfish crackers.. 6 of them had stickers on the bottom. The first two teams found the sticker in the first try... what are the odds!? And the third team had to eat a lot of snacks before they finally found their sticker. Third Task I bought 48 piece puzzles from the Dollar Tree. The boys took their time making
