We Went to the Zoo

Image
A month of no blogging made me realize just how much I love to blog, it was as if a part of me was missing.. we have a running nose, a stuffy nose and a headache that's going on five days now. Ramadan just started, D is going to summer camp and H is trying a hand and finger foods. But hopefully, fingers crossed, this is me back.. So much has happened in this past month.. so let me take you back to the beginning.. when we went to the Bronx Zoo. It was our first visit. We were there from open to close and I'm pretty sure we saw only half of the animals. We started the trip out with sleeping hippo's and polar bears in no mood to entertain.. but the disappointment ended there.. the big brown bears were in a heat.. they were frolicking in the water, trying to affectionately eat each other or make out with each other. not really sure.. but D was awed. A monkey got frighteningly close.. it was very cool though you could tell D was a bit cautious.. the gorilla's

Dinosaur Park

Image
Last weekend we took D to Field Station: Dinosaurs a very tame, toddler friendly Jurassic Park minus the real dinosaurs and all the bloodshed. And when I say toddler friendly I mean it.. anyone over the age of ten may have been bored. The dinosaurs made noises.. and moved a very small amount but for a three year old it was very real. In fact our very first dinosaur was a pointed toothed carnivore roaring at a startled D. After a while he warmed up to a few herbivores.. even roared back as long as mommy was near by.. but by the time we got to dino number 6 he too seemed to be less interested. Not really worth the $25 adult admission. Starting School

Image
I can't believe the time has already come, but yes my baby boy is ready to go off school. He is now bored of his mommy and needs some friends his own age.  You can just see the excitement in his eyes. He picked out his own back pack and can get there fast enough. Though he has had a rough first few days. He started the day after we came back from our trip and didn't have time to recover from his jet lag. So while he was excited, he ended up falling asleep mid class (which is three hours, three days a week) The first day he slept till I came to pick him up, the other two he woke up mid way and ended up disoriented and cranky. Hopefully this week will be different. Get my post directly in you inbox with  Bloglovin I am now also offering ad space.  See  Sponsors  for more information .  Let's Stay Connected, Shall We?

Going to the Movies

Image
When people have children so many stop doing things and going places.. they stop eating out, reading, taking vacations.. when we had D we had decided that we were going to make a greater effort and try to not let that happen to us.. so when he was just a few weeks old we took him to his first restaurant, at six months we took him on his first vacation.. and at 20months we decided it might be time to try his first movie. There were no animated movies playing at the time so we decided to settle for a family movie instead. D was fresh after his afternoon nap, we bought him his favorite, popcorn and we settled in our seat to watch Journey to the Mysterious Island. He was too light to keep the seat down so M had to weigh it down with his knee.. D was ecstatic.. he was laughing and clapping and the movie hadn't even started yet.. long story short he sat still for about the first 20mins before he wanted to leave.. we took turns taking him out but the moment he was outside he wanted to be

Mother's Day

Image
I hope all you mothers and daughter and sons had a lovely mother's day. We spoke with M's mom who lives far far away.. I wasn't able to speak to mine.. she is travelling right now and we don't get to speak much.. we don't live in the some country, not even the same continent and in different time zones but try to speak a few times a week and skype just as much but even those days when we are busy and days go by without talking I know she is right there in her home just a phone call away. This trip she is on makes me miss her a lot more, she with my dad and brother have been travelling for a few weeks now and won't be back home for another few weeks.. and her not being just a phone call away makes me uneasy.. if you could please say a little prayer for their safe journey and safe return home.. That's us when she visited last year for D's first birthday.. while searching for a picture of us together I came to realize that we have no pictures together.

Puzzles

Image
After a lot of throwing and screaming.. D has finally mastered his first puzzle. It was a tool puzzle gifted to him on his birthday. I have decided to get if another, something new to challenge him. That got me searching for puzzles on Etsy. Below are just a few I found.    J and P Wood Products   Kid Puzzles MN Flash   JT Scroll Works   Puzzled One Berkshire Bowls Kaedian Arts   Art Gift Store Osman Bulut AJ Sweet Soap A little note I felt I had to add.. I almost considered not posting this post. When I am reading someones blog I like to see pretty pictures and I would think that you are no different. I try my best to showcase the best. It is something I often struggle with myself, when taking photographs of things I have cooked or DIYed  so I know it's not easy but when searching for puzzle products I was disappointed with some very bad photographs. When you are trying to get someone to buy something without seeing it in person, without being able to touch it the phot

Growth Chart

Image
D is almost two years old now and making a growth chart for him has been on my to do list since before he was even born.. yes, that is how far behind I am on my list of things to do.. hey.. don't judge! I started with cardboard from the white corrugated display boards you can get at any Micheal's or Staples. Cut it in to pieces.   I attached the two pieces with colorful stripes of felt. I used a pliable material mainly so that it could be easily folded. Else I'd have D pulling at it and most probably doodling on it.. I also used the same colored felt as an edging. The back being brown and covered with writing I decided to glue on some colorful gift wrap, so that it looks nice folded. I marked D's height at 6 month intervals and glued a button at the end of every marking. Then I marked M and my height too.. yes that is me under the 5feet mark.. I added a jute loop to both sides of the chart to I could fold it and hang in D's room. and in other n
