The Story Of Us

I have been having a few computer internet connectivity issues.. hence the absence. We had the most marvelous birthday weekend.. as most of you may have read M and I celebrate birthday's back to back which makes celebrating all the more fun. We are not big on gift giving and usually try to go on a little getaway.. whether it is local like a few years ago  or last years trip to Vegas . This year was another year to keep it local.  I caught a bus to New York City and met my husband for dinner. It was a crazy rainy day of course and the bus was 15 mins late but thankfully the restaurant was very understanding. We had a steak dinner at Del Frisco's and were both surprised when it ended with a dessert platter with two candles :) wherever I make a reservation and they ask if we're celebrating something special and we are I make a point of mentioning it no point in hiding it right? I haven't blogged in a bit. Since the summer vacations started things have been busier that I had expected. Ramadan ended and we let off some steam by having friends and family over, then being invited by friends. Also pretty much immediately started D's crash course swim class.. he hadn't been making much progress with all the years of classes he has taken so when someone recommended a crash course they claimed worked wonders with their child I signed him up.. it was a bit of a drive which meant I lost 3 hours every morning but D learnt how to swim.. So I am a believer and we will be doing this crash course every summer.  We have been trying our hand at growing a few things this year.. my mother in law is growing mint and coriander while I'm growing strawberries. It has been an inconsistent crop.. we get like two red strawberries every few days and most have so far been consumed by H so we can't be sure if they even taste sweet.   D turned 7 and m

We are currently toward the tail end of the holy month of Ramadan.. as of today we have one week of fasting left. For those of you not aware of what Ramadan is, well it is a month where we fast from dawn to dusk.. so at present approximately beginning around 4 am and ending around 8:30 pm. During the fast no food of any kind is permitted. And while I know the hours seem long it's not really all that hard.. it takes a day or two to get used to it and then you can hardly tell.. I personally miss food just because food is awesome but there is not a lot of I'm too hungry to function type of scenarios. We are also celebrating a birthday this month.. D turned the 6 on Thursday :) Since we were all fasting.. minus the kids of course.. we will be taking a rain check on the family celebrations.. but the big boy started his day off with some whip cream covered MnM pancakes. I hope you all had a wonderful love, family and food filled Holiday season.. and a great New Year. The last few days of our year were spent spending time with family. My mom has been visiting for the past few months and around Christmas my dad flew in and will be spending a little over a month with us. D had been counting down the days and is now ecstatic. We spent and still are doing weekly movie nights Home Alone was a huge hit in our house,  sipping hot coco and playing games, UNO, Dominos, Foosball We also spent those days wrapping things up.. M took over a week off work and we tied up all the loose ends on our home projects.. pictures and details will come soon. Some pictures from our birthday/valentines celebration.. and a little storm called Nemo (which stopped any and all weekend birthday celebrations : ( plus D was sick.. double sad face) my first attempt at cake pops.. I have made them before.. but never frosted, decorated and put them on sticks before.. and I got shoes for my birthday :) For Valentine's Day a group of us mom (who have mainly only interacted online in a local parenting group) decided it would be fun to have our kids mail each other Valentine's.. D and I got together to make this heart crown and we received and still are receiving so much cute mail. Then came Valentine's Day and M went down with the flu.. and romance died so I baked shortbread. and D crafted some heart melting cuteness at school..  I had saved some of the cake pops I had made the week before, the less than round and perfect ones and upcycled them. For many..well not many but a few years in my head I was always 23 years old.. even after I turned 25 I still thought of myself  as 23.. I had just started to get accustomed to being 25 and BAM! I'm 27! All of a sudden before I knew it I am in my late 20's. When I fill out a form or take a survey I can no longer check the 18-24 box.. no I now check the 25 - whatever box! I know nothing has changed..today will be the same as yesterday and tomorrow will be no different. Turning 27 is less of a 'oh crap I'm getting old' thing but more of a nostalgic where did time go type of a thing.  Just yesterday I was... and now.. and there is nothing depressing about that statement. I'm more filled with wonder, to think I am married to this wonderful man that I love in a way I had never imagined and I have little boy.. that we created out of nothing.. well ok there was something but you know what I mean and he has changed everything.. literally.. Oddly enough I am not

February is a a big month in our house.. we have so much to celebrate. I celebrate a birthday and while I'm not there yet.. next year I'll be celebrating a big milestone birthday with a big 0 at the end.. yikes. M celebrates his birthday the very minutes mine comes to an end.. so it's a two day celebration.. though sometimes we celebrate just all week long. :) We also got engaged during this fabulous month.. and then there is Valentine's Day which honestly just gets over shadowed by all the other awesomeness of the month.
