Eid Mubarak!
Eid Mubarak! We celebrated Eid on Tuesday.
Traditionally there are two foods that are made in every home during eid, dates and sheerkuma. The dates are not the medjool dates but a dried version which we soak in water to replump and then cook in milk and then stuff with a sweet nut mixture. Sheerkuma is a milk based drink with chopped nuts, chopped dates and vermicelli.. mostly drunk warm but M and I like ours cold.
Tuesday morning we went to the mosque for prayers and then after breakfast and a much craved cup of coffee we went to the movies.
Then we hit the mall and let the kids go on a little shopping spree. Later that evening we got all dressed up and went out with our friends for dinner.
Saturday morning we treated ourselves to breakfast.. gotta make up all that weight we lost right.. we did all lose weight and while I wouldn't mind keeping it off the boys all need to put it back on.
We went to watch the new Ghostbusters movie.. and when you go to the movies in the early afternoon on a weekday the tickets are not only cheaper but you get the whole place to yourself.
We ate at a local Turkish restaurant and I made a reel here if you want to check it out.
On Eid the kids get money from the adults.. the boys decided to decorate the envelopes.

Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog so that I could find you. What a lovely space you have and a lovely family to share life with. I have Muslim family who celebrate Ramadan and Eid so I am just beginning to learn about it. What a delicious post-fast breakfast you guys enjoyed!! We only attend movies in the afternoons for both reasons you mentioned. And when I take my granddaughters, they dance in front of the screen after each movie. Something we only do when we have the theater to ourselves.

Before I retired as a middle school librarian I would often have students who were fasting during Ramadan come to the library during their lunch period. It was such a learning experience for me and other students as we asked questions, learned about traditions, and shared our own. I miss that....but love being retired! Have a great day!

Kids are so creative when you give them some paper and markers. The Turkish meal looks delicious. The breakfast dishes look really good too. And a lovely photo of all of you.

I love going to early movies -- no one is there (though that surprises me with something like Ghostbusters that might have a bigger crowd.) More than once in the past year, Rick and I have been the ONLY people in the theatre. I love your family photos. You all look lovely dressed up!

The dates look amazing. Such a totally tasty treat! I have been having more medjool dates lately myself as a substitute for more sugary treats. They really are so satisfying!
