Dress Shopping

Image
This is a sponsored post - All opinions are my own I don't do dresses very often. I have a few that I whip out on special occasions but nothing really fancy. A few months ago M had an office party and for the first time spouses were invited and there I was with nothing to wear. I dress sort of modestly.. no plunging necklines, no bare legs.. if it's a short dress I'd usually where tights underneath.. nothing backless.. which makes dress shopping hard and I end up usually not buying or wearing. But after the office party I decided to always keep an eye out for something, always have a dress or two hanging in the closet especially for occasions like these.. MillyBridal UK  has a beautiful selection.. I found myself loving so many dresses, I may have gotten a bit carried away.. so humor me please. This black and white dress is so pretty. It simple and classic and the lace detail makes it really stand out.   This pink and white one is similar to the o

The Formal Living Room

Image
This post has been long over due.. while we started working on this room almost exactly a year ago it has taken us on and off all that time to get it just right. It is our least used room, saved mostly for guests so we weren't really in a hurry. And in true crappy blogger fashion I forgot to take before pictures! But I assure you it was an ugly drab green. After picking colors for four different rooms I was all out of colors. The formal room came with a chair rail which I love but which also meant I had to choose two more colors.. argh. Thank you Behr.com this is not a sponsored post It was a life saver when it came to picking out colors. We don't usually bring home samples to test out.. we go with our gut and just paint.  Too Blue? I like the purple.. the screen shots don't do it justice but M said no blue. So what goes with purple that's not going to make it a girly room.. or too out there.. no oranges or reds.. how about a tan coffee color?

On the way Down - I am fascinated by spiral staircases, I love the depth and repetition when you look down or up at them from a mid point. The effect is often dizzying. Inside the Tower of Belem, Portugal there were these narrow winding concrete steps; a black and white toning simply added to their character. You can buy this print  here . The Art of Hats

Image
M has as ever growing collection of hats and for some time now we had been trying to figure out how to store them. He didn't want them to be upstairs in our closet.. he picks his hat in the morning before going to work. He was also worried about preserving the shape and structure of his beloved fedoras. We have already laid one.. his favorite to rest. An empty space above our Ikea shoe cabinet and some clear push pins, in less that an hour we had our solution. And it looks pretty :) p.s we are currently getting ready for a massive snow storm, expecting over a foot of snow and strong gales. And to make matters worse over the weekend our heater stopped working. We are hoping to get it repaired today.. Stay warm my fellow East Coasters.. Stay safe. UPDATE: Heat is up and running :)                         Etsy             Instagram             Twitter             Bloglovin

Going Off Strip - Las Vegas

Image
We spent the first two days of our birthday getaway on the Las Vegas Strip  but we just couldn't imagine ourselves spending another day walking the same street weaving in and out of the same hotels. We started with breakfast at Hexx Kitchen + Bar and stopped by the Hexx store to pick up some goodies for the boys. Then grabbed a Lyft to the airport to rent a car.. there is such a sense of freedom with a car. We drove 30 minutes out of the city to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.. we walked around for a bit then drove around the 40 minute scenic loop. There were several hikes and I wish we had thought to pack better shoes. We could have spent hours exploring this place.. next we headed to the Hoover Dam and the Mike O’Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. Why the bridge? It gives you a great view of the Hoover Dam below and it's where the borders of  Nevada and Arizona meet.. I have never been in two states at once.. have you? For the mov

The Other Notre Dame - Inside the beautiful blue Notre Dame Cathedral in Ottawa. ( I hadn't known there was more than one Notre Dame Cathedral. So when in Canada it came as a huge surprise to me that there was not one but in fact dozens of Notre Dame Cathedrals. )  You can buy this print here .
