Ski Break on Plattekill Mountain

Image
Happy New Year to you all!  Back to the grind.. today's our first day back to routine. The kids are still doing virtual school.. M is still working from home..  We had a nice winter break.. we went away for a couple of days.. we rented an Airbnb in Upstate New York. It was a very last minute decision so the pickings were slim but the place was clean and that was the most important part.  We picked Plattekill Mountain, a small mountain.. not too crowded. Drove up Saturday morning and in true 2020 fashion they were closed. They had a storm a day before and were still working on making fresh snow. We got no call or email.. the girl stated they post updates on their social.. oh well. We were in the middle of nowhere.. everything closed due to both Covid and it being Christmas weekend and our Airbnb not available till after 4pm. So we just drove around.. got some lunch at a really sweet little place in Delhi called Blue Bee Cafe. We had mastered the bunny hill last season and were hopin

Canandaigua Lake, New York

Just before the start of school we decided to take a break and get away. We had been thinking about doing something of the sort all summer but were unsure, when we finally decided to go ahead with it everything within a 3 hour radius was booked. We were only willing to go to safe states so Pennsylvania and New York seemed like our best bests. I expanded my search to the Finger Lakes district in Upstate New York and couldn't believe our lucky stars when I found a cute little place on VRBO in Canandaigua Lake with a pool! Yippee!! It was approx 5 hours away.. so we thought to break up the trip with a horse back ride once we crossed into New York. We had never done one before and H is finally of a age where some companies allow him to ride a trail. Unfortunately it rained the whole afternoon.. so that was cancelled.. :( Other than that little hiccup everything else was thankfully smooth sailing.. The House We spent a lot of time in the pool.. well they did.. I spent a lot of time read

Discovery - Inside the intriguing Howe Caverns, in Upstate New York. We visited these caverns on our first road trip with D. You can check out more of our trip here.  Geologists believe that the formation of the cave, which lies 156 feet below ground, began several million years ago. Composed mainly of limestone deposited hundreds of millions of years ago when the Atlantic Ocean stretched far inland, the cave contains a lake called the Lake of Venus. This is a sepia toned photograph of stacked jagged edge stones. To purchase Discovery  click here . Colorless Country Day was taken in the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown, New York. This was the first road trip we took with D. We stepped back in time to rural life in America with blacksmiths, an alchemists, sheep shearers and horse drawn buggies. This photograph was taken in the balcony of the cafe, the dark shuttered windows against the white paneled wall with seats for sitting and enjoying the lovely view. Bethenny Frankel's Gift

Image
As I announced last week... I have had the very good fortune to be included in an exclusive celebrity gifting. I have been choose as one of the handmade artists who will be able to send Bethenny Frankel something. This has been an opportunity I have been waiting for and my name was finally picked and I was over joyed and then that joy turned into nervousness with the big question looming over me 'What to give?' So I held a little vote here on the blog.. it was too close to call and instead of picking from the six photographs I had originally narrowed it down to some suggested other photographs they liked and thought we better suited. My brain was all over the place..  This is what I finally settled upon. Gone . Why? I don't know. I slept on it and when I woke up this was the photograph that was on my mind. It was mounted over the weekend and I mailed it on Monday.. it should be in the company of all the other wonderful gifts by now.. On another note.. I s

Upstate New York Road Trip

Image
It has been so long since we have gotten away. It was this time last year, I was 8 months pregnant and M and I had driven to Woodcliff Spa and Resort, upstate New York for a weekend getaway. We got massages, soaked in the pool, slept and ate. It was perfect and it was also going to be the last time we were going to do all that alone in a while. So finally we thought road trip! Nowhere to far, flexible enough for D and maybe just a little peace. Our first stop was Poughkeepsie where we stopped at the Walkway Over the Hudson, a lovely 1.3 mile walk on what was a sunny and gorgeous day. A view of the bridge from the road as we headed out to lunch at Kavos Gyros.  Our next stop Howe Caverns.. stunning in every way.. and a perfect end to the day. Day2: The Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown... I know I know Cooperstown is supposed to be all about the Baseball but we're not a big baseball family.. and D is a lover of anything outdoors so we go back in time to a place of metal
