Our dinning area started out with our old rug and old dinning table while I searched for a new one.
I really liked the style of the windsor chair and how about that bench? The process of searching for something is made so much easier when you know exactly what you are looking for. I didn't want a chunky looking dinning table or chairs to weigh the room down.. finding the perfect one was surprisingly easier than I had expected. The only down was that the bench didn't make the cut.
Now the question was to rug or not to rug? Originally I had thought rug.. of course a rug. But when we got around to determining how large a rug we would need.. by rule it should be at least 2 feet larger then your table on all sides.. and since we bought a large table my in laws will be moving in soon the size of the rug we needed was going to be very big.. which would end up hiding so much of our floor we would have gone with carpeting if we wanted to hide so much of the floor! Plus I suppose it's easier to sweep up crumbs and wipe up spills off the floor. And so a decision was made, no rug.
Above the table we hung a little reminder from our trip to Turkey you can see more about the trip here plus all the other places we've been here
And for those of you who missed out on what a disaster this space was before and you can see the whole process here

I love the chairs and table. I think in open spaces, no rug is the better way to go. Consider a nice carpet piece on the wall like a tapestry instead of artwork.
You have definitely upgraded the space. It looks so beautiful and warm. The lamps from Turkey are beautiful. I agree that a rug would just hide too much of that beautiful floor.
Good choice with the no rug - we have no choice but to have our table over carpet and with little ones, at least once a month I am trying to remove some piece of food that got stepped on and smashed into it. Maybe when your little ones are older and past the messy eating stage it will make more sense. Love the lamp!
as someone who is renting a house with wall to wall carpeting, go rug free! easier to clean and looks very pretty. maybe some plants and art work if you want it to feel a little cozier?
When the wall between our family room and kitchen see details here came down we had to deal with two different flooring, old carpet and newish laminate. The plan was to find the same laminate.. we found the box in the basement, how hard could it be? Harder than we thought.. that particular one had been discontinued.. and finding something similar was not an easy task.. Finding a flooring that was kind of close but not close enough would seem like a mistake.. so we decided to go different, this way it would seem like an intentional design choice.. I had always wanted a chocolaty dark floor.. The next thing to take into consideration was the transition between the two floors.. generally what is used it a T- Moulding, that strip you see in the above picture connecting the two floors together. Not the prettiest option. Pinterest to the rescue.. Adding tile to the mix would help to blend the two different brown together and there would be no awkward bump in the floori
Last weekend our eldest turned 9.. and we threw him an amazing race birthday party! As with all the boys other parties.. I bought a plain white cake from Wegmans and let D decorate it himself. We had a total of nine kids.. they picked bandanna's out of a bag to create 3 teams. First Task Not all the kids knew each other.. they were too amped up with the idea of winning that they couldn't manage to calm down and read the clue.. so we had to really guide them through it.. they made mistakes and we let it go.. it seemed a tad chaotic.. Second Task I had 33 little medicine cups filled with M&M's and Goldfish crackers.. 6 of them had stickers on the bottom. The first two teams found the sticker in the first try... what are the odds!? And the third team had to eat a lot of snacks before they finally found their sticker. Third Task I bought 48 piece puzzles from the Dollar Tree. The boys took their time making
