La Jolla to 1000 Steps Beach

Image
After spending two days in San Diego we headed on to our next destination, Anaheim. But first some fun detours. Initially we had planned to spend some time in La Jolla, Torrey Pines, hike Annie's Canyon slowly making our way up to Anaheim. But the rain changed a lot. La Jolla beaches had restrictions, Torrey Pines was closed, Annie's Canyon had flooded. So now what? We started by checking out and heading out to La Jolla for breakfast. We ate at The Cottage Afterwards we headed towards La Jolla cove and beach. There were plenty of people there and while some areas were roped off we were still able to get our feet in the sand as well as explore some tidepools. It was really beautiful. We interestingly enough saw no seals but many many pelicans. We grabbed some coffee and then hit the road. As mentioned before.. Torrey Pines and Annie's Canyon were a no go.. so I Googled till I found something else to do enroute.  We settled on One Thousand Steps Beach in Laguna Beach  source

Exploring San Diego

Let's take a step back into August, when we got on to a red eye and headed to San Diego. A few days prior to our departure we learnt that a hurricane was heading to San Diego and planning on hitting us while we were there. :(  M and I have a new motto in life.. we say it often enough.  We rented a car and headed to our hotel. We stayed at the Omni San Diego Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. The hotel was very nice (travel tip - find out what your hotels parking policy is) The parking per night was $40 but if you spent a few extra minutes and didn't mind walking you could find free street parking as it was the weekend, there was also an abundance of parking garages in the area charging half on the cost. So M dropped us off with the bags while he found parking. Staying in that neighborhood was hands down our best decision! It was a party area.. a bit loud but when a hurricane is headed your way you want to be in a lively area where restaurants will dare to stay open. But before we ge

Summer Reads

This summer I read a whopping 9 books. Mostly all winners.. so that's good.             Twenty Years Later by Charlie Donlea Synopsis - Hiding her own dark past in plain sight, a TV reporter is determined to uncover the truth behind a gruesome murder decades after the investigation was abandoned.  Avery Mason, host of American Events , knows the subjects that grab a TV audience’s attention. Her latest story—a murder mystery laced with kinky sex, tragedy, and betrayal—is guaranteed to be ratings gold. New DNA technology has allowed the New York medical examiner’s office to make its first successful identification of a 9/11 victim in years. The the victim, Victoria Ford, had been accused of the gruesome murder of her married lover. In a chilling last phone call to her sister, Victoria begged her to prove her innocence. Emma Kind has waited twenty years to put her sister to rest, but closure won’t be complete until she can clear Victoria’s name. Alone she’s had no luck, but she’s con

How are we all doing? Where has time flown by? Farewell summer (I am happy to say mainly because it has been just so so hot), hope you all had a good one. And hello September, which of course means back to school. They are three days in at this point and D has homework every single day. Even the weekend. I am not a big fan of enormous amounts of homework especially on the weekend. H on the other hand had no homework and I wished his teacher had at least given him something. Never satisfied are we?  Both boys will do there regular sports this year, D wants to join the chess club as well (he has developed a sudden and intense interest in it this past year) There is also a podcasting club (new) and I am pushing him into trying it out.    This has been quite the summer.. we started it off with our trip to Switzerland and wrapped it up with a trip to California.. but more on that soon. When we weren't traveling  The boys were playing tennis with their favorite coach. This was also H'
