A Mini Golf Birthday Bash

Image
My not so little D turned 8 last week. He wanted to have a mini golf birthday party. The closest mini golf place was about 30 minutes away from our place.. I worried people were not going to want to make the 30 minute plus drive. It was in the end of June so I worried about the heat. We booked an evening time for the party.. the mini golf place called SwingTime offered us a mini golf and arcade package. They would order the food.. provide popcorn and drinks.. I sent out the invitations using Paperless Post . I have mentioned them before on the blog and this is my third time using them to send out invites and I love how seamless the process is, how cute the cards are. As usual waiting for the RSVP's is the most watching water come to a boil type job.. but surprisingly this time people replied quickly.. but that wasn't necessarily a good thing since all the replies where regrets. Most people had immediate vacation plans :( The favors were a golf club and ball along

What is STEM? New Snapology Franchise in New Jersey

Image
Have you heard of STEM? Of course you have.. it's the new hot word.. I see it all over Pinterest, over the past few months I have been saving all these interesting posts.. collecting activities for the summer months and then lo and behold I hear about a new Snapology STEM program open a few counties over. I spent some more time reading up about the subject, most of the websites provide vague explanations.. until I stumbled upon We Are Teachers , this website is perfect. It breaks down the subject in an easy to understand language and shows how anyone.. especially teachers can incorporate STEM into all aspects of learning. Another definition I found and really liked was 'STEM makes creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors.'  It's the education of the future. Schooling a Monkey  is also a great resource for easy to do at home STEM activities.   D had created this Lego maze a few years ago. Didn't even realize we were doing

The Budding Entrepreneur

Image
A few months ago our towns public school sent out an email to all the elementary and middle school students about a June marketplace. It was an optional, ungraded project where the students would get an opportunity to create a product or service and sell it at the marketplace. There were no restrictions, you could work alone or with a partner.  I talked to D about it.. explained to him what it would entail, the concept of profit and expense, the various products or services that could be sold and let him mull over it.. I wanted to make sure he understood all the extra work it would mean.. after a week of going back and forth.. he decided he wanted to participate. He decided to make upcycled tin can pencil holders. He began with making sketches.. while I started to collect tin cans.  We did an inventory of all the things we had in the house.. so that we could minimize our expenses.. and then the work began. We worked on one can per weekend.. we didn't use most of

The Inner Core - In the gardens of the Vatican Museum stood a large spherical bronze structure. It looked as if it was the earth, ripped open for us to see what was inside. And what was inside? Another smaller sphere with gears on the inside. You can buy this print here . Get Free Shipping with code BLOGGER Prints also available in larger sizes. Sun and Fun in Gran Canaria

Image
Not so far off the Moroccan coast are the Gran Canary Islands.. we were as close to the islands as we were ever going to get. So why not right? This was our first time staying at an all inclusive resort.. usually we always prefer to venture out and discover.. but this time we were looking to just lay back and relax.  Our hotel perched up on a cliff. The view from our balcony..  It was nice to not have to think about what to eat of where to go.. the boys loved the pool.. the entertainment was a bit dated.. think AC/DC and Freddy Mercury. There was a shuttle that took us down to the beach.. it was quite a walk otherwise.. we walked the way down and took the shuttle back up. The disappointing part was that it was a public beach meaning we had to rent chairs.. the shocking part it was a clothing optional beach.. thankfully and surprisingly that boys did not seem to notice.. nevertheless we tried to keep our stay at the beach short. Now a photo dump..
