Saved - In the Vatican City, inside St. Peter’s Basilica among the extravagantly ornate ceilings, the statues and paintings, above the Throne of St. Peter was a stained glass window with a dove also known as Bernini's 'Holy Spirit'. Simple by comparison but stunning none the less.

Washington DC

The 10 hour drive from Myrtle Beach to home seemed far too long especially at the end of a trip when crankiness starts to emerge. So we decided to stop a night in DC before heading home. We left Myrtle Beach early in the morning grabbing breakfast on the go and we were in DC by the late afternoon. We spent an hour driving around pointing things out to the in laws.. making a stop here or there. Having already been to DC twice we were not as inclined to do a more a detail tour of the National Mall.

After settling in at the hotel we walked towards dinner.. we have a Nando's back home and my taste buds have such fond memories of the chicken.. when I found out DC had a Nando's and it was a three minute walk away from our hotel I knew we had to go and it did not disappoint. nom nom.. sorry no pictures.. too busy devouring it all.

The next morning we packed up and were ready to hit the road.. with just a detour or two first. When in DC breakfast must be done at Founding Farmers.. we love the place and tell everyone about it. Unfortunately they were booked solid that Easter Sunday :( and we had to make other plans. Instead we stopped by Busboys and Poets love the name!

Eggs Benedict with Crab Meat

Our second stop was the Air Space Museum. I wish we had time to do more museums but we barely had enough time to fully explore one if we wanted to get back home at a reasonable hour.

and then home sweet home.

Myrtle Beach

From Charlotte to Savannah and then to Charleston, finally we found ourselves in Myrtle Beach. With the way the weather has been we weren't sure how warm it would be so I tried to find a resort the had enough indoor activities in case it was too cold outside. With two indoor water parks Dunes Village seemed to fit the bill. While through out the trip the 6 of us for making it work in a single room with double beds here we were finally able to enjoy an apartment style room with two bedroom and two baths.. !! :)

The Water Park

The Beach.. we got amazing weather :)

We had lunch at Rooster's in Broadway at the Beach, a boardwalk style promenade with shops and rides. For dinner we had Shawarma Company delivered to our room.. there is something so satisfying about being freshly showered eating in your pj's after a day of fun. The next morning we ate the breakfast buffet at the hotel.. seriously lacking in all departments but very convenient. We ate lunch at the hotel as well.. at the Captain's Cafe.. surprisingly so much better than breakfast. For dinner we thought about exploring the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.. so sketchy! We couldn't get out of there fast enough.. but we did find a great little thai place, Thai Lao.. so it wasn't a complete loss.

We had a great time.. the boys loved it..

Charleston

We are on day 11 of fasting and my productivity level has gone way down.. hence the lack of posts :( . The weather has also been so gray and rainy not helping in lifting our moods.. I just want to crawl in bed and take a nap.. and then a deer decided to hit my car!! So while that is being fixed $$ we have only one car.. meaning I get to wake up an hour earlier to drop him off at the bus station.. yawn. I don't mean to depress all of you.. not asking for a pity party.. well maybe a little one :)

Anyway.. I finally got through all the Charleston pictures.. and there were a lot and I'm ready to share! But before we got to Charleston we made a little stop to see a big old tree.. Angel Oak

We arrived in Charleston in the afternoon.. checked in and decided to head out to explore.. we walked along North King St. For dinner he stopped at Smoke BBQ and had the most amazing meal

and capped it of with the very good Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. Jeni's blew Savannah's Leopold right out of the water.

and with full bellies we were ready to jump in bed.

The next morning we headed down King St. once again, but this time ventured south. We had breakfast at the Cafe Framboise which was nice, basic, did the job. Then we just wandered..

The famous pineapple fountain in Waterfront Park

 White Point Garden

and inside the City Market.. the outside market is a waste of time full of cheap looking China products you find on eBay. But the inside was considerably better. We ate some of Callie's delicious Hot Little Biscuit's.. nom nom. My MIL sampled and loved Sweet Charleston's Dried Okra Chips.

For dinner we devoured the so good Mellow Mushroom Pizza.. the boys had plain cheese and we had Thai Dye.. so unusually good

We really enjoyed Charleston, I could almost imagine living there and then I remember the 100 degree summers and think nah! Before we headed out we grabbed some donuts from Glazed and headed to Myrtle Beach. The raspberry and coconut were both sooo good.

Savannah

Getting back to our road trip, which we started with a drive down to Charlotte and then a stop in Chimney Rock after which we headed down to Savannah. The next morning we started with a sublime breakfast at the Mirabelle Cafe. It was a beautiful day, we sat outside people watching and enjoying our food, the peach was everyone's favorite.

We didn't have a planned schedule, we hoped to just wander about enjoying the city and in all our enjoyment we ended up not taking many pictures. We also had a few hiccups. D had a bathroom accident, while in one of the squares something bit H's scalp and he ended up with so many itchy bumps in his hair which made him miserable.

We had delicious taco's at Tequila Town, we walked up and down river street, visited the Colonia Park cemetery, the boys enjoy Pete the Cat art work in a City Market gallery. We stood in a long long line to get a scoop of ice cream from the infamous Leopold's Ice Cream. Very good and such interesting flavors though the very next day we ate even better ice cream in Charleston.

We managed to have an almost good day with unfortunately far more downs than ups.. oh well.

Paperless Post

I have more travel posts coming.. I promise. Just haven't found the time to go through the rest of the pictures yet. Till then..

This post was sponsored by Anagram Interactive

I used to be one of those people who remembered everyone's birthday. I even had a card guy I visited regularly. And then came the internet and Facebook. Life got busier and it was just so much easier to write on someone's wall and now there are just so many ways to say Happy Birthday.. most not very personal. I miss the personal touch, the phone calls and the cards.

With Mother's Day coming up and my mom continents away I was thinking of something more than a phone call. The postal system back home sucks so sending something was out of the question. I wasn't really thinking that a card would do until I spotted this one.

I couldn't have said it better myself.. and I found this gem at Paperless Post. Paperless Post is the brain child of siblings James and Alexa Hirschfeld to prove that communication could be personal and well-designed regardless of the medium.

I spent sometime perusing their website.. wishing I had a party to plan so I could use some of their beautiful invitations. How about a surprise party?

or these totally cute kid's birthday invites.. they can all be easily customized and personalized with a change of font or text. You can even upload your own pictures.

Along with cards and invites they also have stationary and everything you may possibly need to plan the perfect wedding including programs, menu's etc all designed by the likes of Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Kate Spade and the list goes on..

And for the forgetful sort you can schedule your cards delivery so you never miss another birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day ever again. Speaking of Father's Day, they already have a large collection of cards available so you can get a head start on your shopping now.

and something I loved, coming from an under represented minority.. they even had Ramadan cards.

Now let's talk money. They have a huge selection of free digital cards and invites. You can customize the text, schedule and send for free. But if you decide you want the extras like logo's, backdrops, digital envelopes then a small fee is added. Paperless Post uses it's own currency they call coins. You can purchase 20 coins for $6.00 and each card with all the bells and whistles cost about 2 - 3 coins, a great price considering the quality of the card/invite.

But now the bit I wasn't too fond of.. if you decide you don't want to send a digital card but want to old school it with a paper card you can no longer use coins.. now it costs real money. Which isn't a deal breaker of course. Paperless Post mentions repeatedly don't buy coins first. See what you like, create the order and see how many if any coins you need before making that purchase. But mixing currencies, their own and the real kind to me just seems like work especially for the math illiterate like myself

I'm going to go back to party planning while you check out Paperless Post for some inspiration yourself..

Chimney Rock North Carolina

The first stop on our trip was Charlotte but we did not have the time to actually explore the city. The time it took to get that far south from New Jersey and the time it would take to get back cost us two of our 9 vacation days.

Our second day was spent at the Chimney Rock State Park just outside of Asheville, near Lake Lure. The same lake where the water scene from Dirty Dancing was shot. Chimney Rock has over 6 different trails for all different skill levels and most very family friendly. We explored three different trails while we were there.

The first was the Great Woodland Adventure designed specifically for kids.

The second trail was Chimney Rock

There were a lot of steps.. over 400 but the boys were real good.. and the view was totally worth it.

You can see Lake Lure from the top.

We asked the boys if they were up for another hike and surprisingly they both said yes! The third hike was the Hickory Nut Falls Trail

After a very satisfying day we got into our car and started to head down to Savannah.
