Chug a Chug Chug - This is a photograph of the Essex Steam Train taken in Essex, Connecticut. I took this photograph in 2008 during a road trip M and I took through New England. This is a Valley Railroad #97, a vintage 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type steam locomotive, built in 1923 by the American Locomotive Company. It's one of the few operational steam locomotives in the United States, consuming 2 tons of coal per day to produce the steam that powers it. It is primarily used for special events like the North Pole Express.

ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning shot, Hena! xxx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful capture, Hena, and I enjoyed your history shared about this still running train!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeleteThat steam train photo really takes me back. There’s something timeless about those engines like you’re stepping into a moment when travel was slower, more deliberate. I can almost hear that steady chugging and smell the coal smoke. Those vintage locomotives have a way of reminding us how far we’ve come.
ReplyDeleteI have always been fascinated by trains. I am fortunate to share that passion with my 3 year old son. Unfortuntaley, during a carpet cleaning accident last week, I demolished his most recently bought train. I have never felt worse. My sweet boy looked at me and said, "it's ok mommy, you can just buy me another." Kids are so sweet and also such stinkers haha.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful capture!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo. Lovely sepia finish!

I can see this one being very popular. The sepia tone is perfect for a locomotive too. Hope you have been well and keeping safe over there.
