lately

January was a bit of a blur and just like that it is already over.

We started the year off with H turning nine and hosted an epic secret agent birthday party for him.

I started the year of with a fun puzzle. It was super cute and easy. There was one missing piece though.

We also made a visit to the orthodontist and found out that D has completed his invisalign treatment. And will now only have to wear a retainer at night.. wohoo. While I am not allowed to share his before teeth.. he did give me permission to share his after. He still has some baby teeth left so the doc will monitor accordingly. But the improvement has been massive.. especially if you knew what the before looked like.

We also made a really short trip to Houston over a long weekend. My sister in law lives there and we hadn't seen them in a few years and her kids had been begging for a visit. We had a great time.. tons of family bonding and great food. Houston is the hub of desi (pakistani/indian) food.. and oh it was all so good. We ate far too much.

Did we take pictures of this food? Of course not.. (smacks forehead). But I did get a picture of the amazing Voodoo Donuts.. yes I did.

D has been taking some cooking lessons.. with mixed results. The kids are assisting in the cooking rather than cooking all by themselves. So he found the it a little boring. As he already assists me in the kitchen when he can. The kid get way too much homework.

We went to a Rangers game (ice hockey) and they crushed the Vegas Warriors :) It was fantastic!

H got some book swag in the mail thanks to the amazing Max Brallier author of The Last Kids on Earth series. He heard H was a fan via twitter and reached out to us asking if H would like some stickers. How sweet is that!

How was your January?

I remember retainers too - when they eat lunch at school remember not to throw away or you will spend a lot of time in trash containers - lol.
You go on the best trips. They look like so much fun and great food. Bet it was nice to see your family. Sandie

I agree that January did just fly by for sure, sounds like you all had a good time enjoying it too, there is nothing better than to spend some fun times with family, those donuts look delicious. So happy for your son, I remember when our daughter moved to just using the retainer at night, she was so thrilled. Hope you enjoy a great February too!!

That's a really cute puzzle! (I'm laughing at Debra's comment) It's really frustrating to get to the end and be missing a piece, especially on a new puzzle.

Oh I hate when I get to the end of putting a puzzle together and find it's missing a piece! It sounds like you had a wonderful visit with our family.
Blogger was making it a real challenge to comment here today. Love that D's teeth have improved dramatically.
You sound to have been busy, productive AND had fun. Sigh at the missing puzzle piece.
What a fun trip to Houston. I've seen Voodoo Doughnut mentioned on a Food Network show before. And hooray for the hockey game! We have tickets for a Tampa Lightning game next month and I can't wait.
My January was definitely tame in comparison. How lovely to visit with your family in Houston, and get to sample all that delicious food! How annoying to have a missing piece in that jigsaw, though! xxx

With so much going on, it's no wonder your January want by so quickly. My was quiet since I was recovering from a sprained ankle but I did manage to workout quite a bit.

Sounds like a great but busy month! Love all the pictures and updates. My son's orthodontist would not do braces until after he hit puberty. He said some stuff would correct itself (it did) and that the jawline changes so it was best to wait. He is 17 and should be getting his braces off in March.

Don't worry about not taking pics of the food. I think far too many people spend time getting the right pics and miss out on the enjoying of the eating.
It sounds like a fun month! That puzzle is super cute!
