A Day Spent in Athens
We took an early morning flight out of Santorini and found ourselves back in Athens in our earlier hotel, Estia Boutique Apartments. It was not yet time for check in so we dropped off our things and headed off in search for breakfast.
We had about a day and a half in Athens and not much of an itinerary, our to do list had the Acropolis on it and then our plan was just to wander around and explore the neighborhoods of Psyri, Monastiraki and Plaka and Ermou street.
Athens too was excruciatingly hot so we decided to take an afternoon break and headed back to our hotel to check in and cool off.
In the late afternoon we headed out again.. straight towards the Acropolis. The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. There are tickets to enter. Lots of walking and climbing and uneven steps can be slippery.
The Parthenon, a former temple dedicated to the goddess Athena.
The arc seen in the distance is Hadrian's Arch and the pillars standing in the grassy rectangle are the remains of Temple of Olympian Zeus.
We ate at Picky Cafe in the Psyri area.

The Little Kook was an over the top Alice and Wonderland themed restaurant.
Because we had such an early start we were feeling a little tired.. so we stopped for some lunch at Cadillac Burgers. Their fries were ridiculously good.

We ended the day with a delectable meal at Mamacita
The next morning we had a lovely breakfast at the hotel, packed and checked out leaving our luggage in the hotel storage. We had a few more hours to roam around before it was time to say goodbye to Greece.

ReplyDeleteYou do it right -- not overscheduling, seeing some of the main and important things but equally important is wandering around and seeing what the area is like. That's what helps people grow!

The Little Kook looks like a fun and colorful place to eat. And the breakfast dishes look Yummy. I love that picture of the umbrellas and the flowers and the cafe tables and the boys' smiles. And a pretty picture of you in your red lipstick. The girls went to the Parthenon also when they traveled to Athens. Such old and historic sites, delicious foods, wonderful things to buy, what more can one ask for? Thanks for taking me along. : )
