Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
From the beginning, Tully is desperate to prove her worth to the world. Abandoned by her mother at an early age, she longs to be loved unconditionally. In the glittering, big-hair era of the eighties, she looks to men to fill the void in her soul. But in the buttoned-down nineties, it is television news that captivates her. She will follow her own blind ambition to New York and around the globe, finding fame and success . . . and loneliness.
Kate knows early on that her life will be nothing special. Throughout college, she pretends to be driven by a need for success, but all she really wants is to fall in love and have children and live an ordinary life. In her own quiet way, Kate is as driven as Tully. What she doesn’t know is how being a wife and mother will change her . . . how she’ll lose sight of who she once was, and what she once wanted. And how much she’ll envy her famous best friend. . . .
For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship---jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they’ve survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart . . . and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test.
Thoughts - This was an epic saga.. a beautiful story of friendship between women. I related with Kate on so many levels and I have had my fair share of bright and shiny Tully's in my life. I don't want to give anything away but if you can manage a long book than I would highly recommend it. This was my first Kristin Hannah book. I have heard good things about her other books as well and have added them to my TBR list as well.. Have you read Firefly Lane? Are you a Kate or a Tully?

I read two other books this last month. One a quick page turning thriller from James Patterson Women's Murder Club series.. and another less intriguing book The Keeper by Jessica Moor.. I almost did not finish it many times and I wish I hadn't.. I finished it over the weekend and it had no clever ending to redeem itself. Oh well.
That book sounds really good! Sorry the Keeper sucked. I've read books like that before.

Thanks for a good review. I loved "The Nightingale' by Hannah. Nie to hear more of her other work.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if this is on my shelves virtually anywhere....Sounds like a good book!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really good book. When I just looked it up on Amazon, it says there's a sequel. I've read two other Kristin Hannah books (The Nightingale and The Great Alone) and I think she's a good writer. I'm going to see if my library app offers this one.
ReplyDeleteI really love Kristin Hannah's books. Well except for her latest one, "The Great Alone". Just my opinion though. Way too long and too much of the same thing throughout the story. I've enjoyed all her others though. I think I've read all but four of her books.
ReplyDeleteAnother author you may like is Karen White. She also has stand alone books and book series. I enjoy the way she writes. Again just my opinion though.
I've actually read that book not all that long ago, and I liked it very much. I might be more a Kate than a Tully ;-) xxx
ReplyDeleteIntriguing and I found your review interesting of how it related to you.
ReplyDeleteThis looks good. The last book I read by this author left me in a puddle of my own tears on the floor.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of the author or the book. Thank you for the tempting review.
ReplyDeleteI really admire how you find a good book and spend time reading it. I must get back to reading!

Oh this sounds like a great read. It was like this in the 70s and to a degree in the 80s. Young woman today don't have to worry about choosing between career and family. Hell, a lot of them don't want careers their influencers LOL.
