How Do You Do Jewelry?
Being of South Asian decent.. jewelry to us equates to gold. When you are born your family gives you gold. Have a bar mitzvah like welcome to puberty celebration? Gold. It not always jewelry, it can be gold coins as well. Even boys get gold. It is saved and collected for the big day, our weddings. All those gold coins are then used to make jewelry to give both your daughter and daughter in law when she gets married. This is a big deal, it is often displayed during one of our many many wedding events so that guests can ooh and aah over it. Now I know it sounds very over the top but in most South Asian families women didn't work, many still don't. The tradition of giving gold started as a security net for the girls, if faced with hard times, a cruel husband.. death of a husband.. in the end she would at least have this gold to get her out of a difficult situation. Times may have changed but the tradition for giving gold is still prevalent.
All through my youth I hated the idea of wearing gold.. made me feel old. Instead I wore glass bangles and silver anklets and chunky earrings.. It lessened a little after I got married... lessened a bit more after D was born (babies pull on everything.. I thought he was going to rip my ear off). I don't have someplace to be every day.. and I am not really one to dress up to buy groceries and run errands. So my jewelry wearing has really minimized. I haven't bought costume jewelry in forever.. but I have finally embraced wearing some of the gold jewelry I do have.
Currently rings are my favorite.. I would make a horrible hand model..
I love rings with a unique design, a gem stone gives a pop of color which is always a great thing.. Some unique gold rings I found.
Some more incredibly gorgeous rings I found here.
I have never been one for thin delicate rings but these make me want to give them a try.
The detail on this one is incredible.

I love that first one especially - ring - it is so unique. I know friends who do the same as you.
ReplyDeleteNow for me honestly - I wear a watch and wedding ring. Have left them both off during Covid tho - not sure why.
Your hand is pretty!

All of your rings are beautiful and gold looks so good with your skin tone! I prefer silver.
ReplyDeleteI love jewelry, whether costume or the real deal.... but these days all I wear is one particular necklace and, if I'm leaving the house, earrings. I do remember those days with babies when I couldn't wear hoops or anything dangly.
Those rings are gorgeous, Hena, I'm glad to hear you have started wearing them after years of neglect! xxx
ReplyDeleteYou have some gorgeous rings! I love rings of all types! I'm pretty basic and wear the same necklace and my wedding set pretty much every day (lazy!). I change my earrings and that's only if I'm going out. I loved learning about your South Asian traditions about gold!
ReplyDeletei am definitely not a jewelry person. i have MAYBE 3 rings and the only one i wear is my wedding ring. no watch, no bracelets, no nothing!! your rings are really beautiful. i like the blue stone, sapphire is my birthstone!!
ReplyDeletei also never "dress up"!! i think i have the same number of dresses and no dressy pants outfits. i am a super casual girl!!
There are some truly lovely rings there.
ReplyDeleteMy father worked in silver (a hobby) and I still prefer it to gold. I also love unique and individual pieces - and have a weakness for emeralds and moonstones.
I rarely wear rings though - earrings all the way. I could wear a different pair every day for a year I think.
Wow, these rings are GORGEOUS!!

Your rings are so beautiful. I love the designs and the colorful stones. I don't wear much in the way of jewelry these days as I've found over the years that some metals, especially silver, give me contact dermatitis. I have a few simple pieces that I stick with: an opal ring because opal is my birthstone, my wedding band, and a pair of diamond studs.
ReplyDeleteThese rings are so beautiful and each one is unique!

ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting about the history of gold that way. I have to admit that I've been wearing rings more and more lately...and I love them.

These rings look great, Hena:) I'm not into jewelry too much, but I don't mind wearing rings and bracelets. I do tend to lose them though which is why I don't wear fancy ones. Would't mind these rings though:D
ReplyDeleteThose rings are beautiful! When I worked, I wore more jewelry. Now I sometimes forget to put in my earrings and sometimes when I have them on, don't change them for ages. I always wear a small bracelet Rick gave me in copper, silver and gold. Or maybe fake silver and gold! But definitely copper, and a small necklace from him that is a circle that used to have a lot of teeny diamond chips, most of which have fallen out. I've only taken that off for Xrays since the day I got it!
ReplyDeleteThose are very pretty rings. I am very into rings right now as well.
ReplyDeleteI tend to prefer fine jewelry but haven't worn any jewelry during the pandemic because ewww germs and it's less things I have to worry about cleaning when I get home from being outside.
ReplyDeleteThese. rings are beautiful! I am a huge ring wearer, so glad you. shared these.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous rings, each one is so pretty ! I thank you for sharing a bit of your heritage too. I love learning and I think it's amazing that GOLD is given as gifts.
ReplyDeleteI was the same when I was younger. I didn't like gold and only wore silver. In fact I got my ears pierced and when I switched to silver after the first set of gold earrings they pierce your ears with my ears turned black as I was allergic. I let them close up as I did not want to wear gold. Now I love it!! These rings here are gorgeous!

I love rings.
ReplyDeleteOooo, those are cool rings. At one time, I was really into rings, but now I just usually wear earrings and bracelets. For some reason, your blue ring spoke to me; it's simple and pretty. That first one is unique and lovely as well. I think aqua goes with your skin tone. : )

Wow! Those rings are gorgeous! I wear all kinds of jewelry, and even though I wear rings they are my least favorite because I have to constantly put on lotion and then I have to take the rings off to do that. My hands also tend to swell and then it's hard to take them off.
ReplyDeleteLove all these rings! They're all beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThese rings are pretty especially the first one.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! 3rd one is my favourite!

These are beautiful rings you own. Chinese culture loves gold also and jade. I wear a jade bracelet that doesn't come off. My maternal grandmother got it from my paternal one because my maternal one used to help take care of me when my parents went to work and my paternal one still worked. My paternal one got it during one trip to Asia. My maternal kept in an oilskin bag until I wanted one. I probably asked for a jade bracely in my early twenties.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is my favourite. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThese rings are absolutely beautiful! The first one I think is my favorite it is so eyecatching!
ReplyDeleteEmerald and gold is a great combo, absolutely stunning!

ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteI get not liking gold at first. I used to be a hardcore silver fan but there are just too many adorable gold options out there. Gold looks lovely on you! My favorite is probably the last one, it looks so regal.
my family is also very in to gold. It took my a while to understand why, but I love it now and think gold jewelry really helps enhance my outfits! All those rings are beautiful!
