lately - still social distancing
We are officially beginning month 2 of social distancing. The kids currently have their spring break.. so we have to try harder to keep them occupied with things other than TV and iPads.
The social distancing has had no effect to M's work.. he is working from home but his hours remain the same.. so he decided to take a few days off.
The social distancing has had no effect to M's work.. he is working from home but his hours remain the same.. so he decided to take a few days off.
So what have we been up to?
We are playing a lot of board games.. the kids current favorites are Monopoly Jr., Blokus, Rummikub and of course UNO. In fact given the choice between game night and movie night game night almost always comes out on top.
The weather has been either nice or rainy.. so we are trying to spend some time outside whenever a nice day comes around. I have never seen our neighborhood so full of people. Usually its a ghost town, just cars zipping here and there.. but now that everyone is home we see families biking and walking.. it is quite a smile inducing sight.
H's teacher has been encouraging her students to learn how to tie their shoelaces. I put D to the task of teaching his little brother how to tie his shoes laces. And after just a few days of trying he learned!
We got together with our friends on ZOOM and played some Bingo.. my little man won $10!
I'm still reading.. D has already read everything he owns.. some books more than once.. I found the Percy Jackson series for him.. he had already read the first two books and then subsequently watched the movies.. three more are on the way. I like to use paperbackswap. And Target was having a Buy 2 Get 1 Free book sale so H used his Bingo money to buy three books from this series. D and I are also very slowly making our way through The American Story: Conversations with Master Historians. Another little gem is on Instagram. Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams in partnership with NoKidHungry have celebrities and other public figures read stories online. H requests a few each night..
I love that D taught his little brother how to tie his shoes. That is so precious and cute. I love that they'll choose game night over anything else. I remember playing board games as a kid and it's some of the best memories yet

Social distancing is getting hard.

The days passes so slowly with social distancing. It sounds like you are doing a great job in keeping the kids busy.
ReplyDeleteI love the Jennifer Garner site. And it's so great that they love board games. So much more personal than online ones. It all looks good. I'm especially relieved to know M can work from home.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, Hena.
It sounds like you're doing well and finding good ways to stay occupied. Also great that M can work from home. It's stressful when loved ones have to be out and about for work.
ReplyDeleteWe used to have game nights with my husband's youngest daughter when she was young and spending the weekends with us. It always was much fun, and some of the games we played will always remind me of those nights. It's such a fun thing to do, and I love it that your children prefer it over movie nights! I've been reading a lot as well, and I am happy I'm such a book hoarder, as I've got enough reading material to keep me occupied. Stay safe, Hena! xxx
ReplyDeleteI think you are doing a FANTASTIC job during this crisis - glad your hubs took some time off too.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute about teaching his brother how to tie shoes! You guys sound like you're making the best of this quarantine! The weather has been the same here. I'm ready for warmer temps and more sunny days!
ReplyDeleteHello, my friend.
ReplyDeleteYour social distancing sounds like it is very similar to ours.
We have been playing cards and games after dinner.
Our schools here in Pennsylvania have closed for the remainder of the year.
This doesn't affect us, as we homeschool, but it does seem sad.
Stay safe, my friend.
It’s tough not knowing how long the social distancing will last. I am missing my family too ! I’ve been reading a lot and organizing everything ! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteGood to hear hubby is still working and things are going as well as can be expected for your family.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear everything is going well with you, it's a very stressful time. I hope you're doing well during this quarantine, and are feeling okay!
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine social distancing with littles! Looks like you are doing good. Hopefully we are nearing the end (??). My days are quiet and my husband's work increased from being at home. He is a prof and he had to convert his classes to online and it's a LOT of work...but I'm glad he is home sweet home!!
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable that D taught his little brother how to tie his shoes!

One of the positives of quarantine for me has definitely been all the extra time to read which I never had before.
ReplyDeletewe are soooooo lucky to have the internet during this stay at home pandemic!!
ReplyDeletewe have been playing games also, racko and banagrams are our go to games!! i too have been zooming with friends, it's great, isn't it!!
You are doing a great job, Hena. I can imagine how challenging it must be to hole up 2 active boys at home!
ReplyDeleteStay safe!

Love how big brother is teaching his little brother how to tie shoes. It is a life skill.
ReplyDeleteIt's good you are making the most of your time together and spending lots of time with game nights! I found the Easter break tricky trying to entertain the kids while also working from home, but I'm hoping next week when they start remote learning they will be occupied a little more so it's easier to work from home, hehe. Lots of fun activities together, like painting and crafting, we do on the days I don't have to work :)
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a nice weekend :) It's a rainy day here - perfect weather for continuing to isolate at home!

The idea of online bingo with friends is great: D Regards:**
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are all still finding lots of quality activities to keep you entertained while staying at home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good big bro teaching the little one! Great job!

It's nice to have all those board games to keep your kids busy during this time. I heard that puzzles are wonderful also. You have a lot of people joining in on Zoom. I'm really glad that me and the girls set that up, so we can chat.
ReplyDeleteStay well, friend. You're doing good with those little ones at home and trying to make smiles every day. : )

I like the way celebrities are getting involved to help out by reading stories to kids. We are coming up with so many great online alternatives for kids to learn and have fun during this social distancing time.
ReplyDeleteWe've been playing a lot of monopoly and Uno too! So awesome that you captured your son mastering his shoe tieing! Stay healthy and safe!
