The Formal Living Room
This post has been long over due.. while we started working on this room almost exactly a year ago it has taken us on and off all that time to get it just right. It is our least used room, saved mostly for guests so we weren't really in a hurry. And in true crappy blogger fashion I forgot to take before pictures! But I assure you it was an ugly drab green.
I like the purple.. the screen shots don't do it justice but M said no blue. So what goes with purple that's not going to make it a girly room.. or too out there.. no oranges or reds.. how about a tan coffee color?
I needed to add another set of colors to the room and I fell in love with these pillow covers when in Karachi. So orange and blue it is.
After picking colors for four different rooms I was all out of colors. The formal room came with a chair rail which I love but which also meant I had to choose two more colors.. argh.
Thank you Behr.com this is not a sponsored post It was a life saver when it came to picking out colors. We don't usually bring home samples to test out.. we go with our gut and just paint.
Too Blue?
Once again, screenshots do not do these colors justice.. and we did not get samples.. I was freaking out while it was being painted.. we do not like browns.. our go to neutral is gray.
Behr's Tibetan Temple on top and Pure Earth on the bottom.. I love paint color names. So we went ahead with these rich colors but when it came to picking a carpet or a sofa we were at a loss for what colors we should go for.. we lightened up the room with new creamy white carpet from Home Depot. And scoured the stores for a sofa. We really like the tufted style and hadn't gotten a chance to use it yet.
On Overstock we managed to find both a beautiful sofa and coffee table set..but there was one little problem.
We were looking for something gold and all the we found that we liked and was in our price range was silver.. Spray paint saves the day.. I was a little scared at first..
They turned out beautifully.
I needed to add another set of colors to the room and I fell in love with these pillow covers when in Karachi. So orange and blue it is.
I hate buying curtains.. thank god for return policy's.. after trying out various curtain I finally found a winner..
We put up our family portraits.. some gorgeous black and white horses
Decorating is a fun though sometimes frustrating process.. happy to be done.. even happier with the outcome :)
I understand how hard it is to choose colors. You chose well for your living room. It's modern and mature. You are so brave with creamy white sofas.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for your comment about my tween and her new sweater. I'm so excited she's wearing it today! I keep looking at those photos and can't believe how she's grown.
