I am running out of things to blog about these days.. and it's not because of the lack of eventfulness. There is plenty going on.. just not a lot I can share right now. We have contractors coming in, bids are being made and I am gathering info and learning so much that I can't wait to share.. but before I do numbers need to be crunched, pros and cons weighed and decisions to be made.

Have you ever hired a contractor? Have any words of wisdom to share?

    Oh that's such a stressful thing. I'm terrible at it and usually just take the first estimate, but it's good to make a plan and really think about it. Can't wait to hear what the plans are! Good luck!

      thanks. Unfortunately this little one won't be getting a pretty nursery just yet.. it's gonna take us a little time before we work our way upstairs.. but as we learnt from D.. they don't know the difference and they want to spend more time in your room anyway..

    I have hired a contractor, and the results have been all over the place. If you can get references, I think that helps a lot. I hope it all goes smoothly. Your boys are very handsome. :)

Kitchen and Family Room: New Flooring

When the wall between our family room and kitchen see details here came down we had to deal with two different flooring, old carpet and newish laminate. The plan was to find the same laminate.. we found the box in the basement, how hard could it be? Harder than we thought.. that particular one had been discontinued.. and finding something similar was not an easy task..  Finding a flooring that was kind of close but not close enough would seem like a mistake.. so we decided to go different, this way it would seem like an intentional design choice.. I had always wanted a chocolaty dark floor.. The next thing to take into consideration was the transition between the two floors.. generally what is used it a T- Moulding, that strip you see in the above picture connecting the two floors together. D's Amazing Race Party

Last weekend our eldest turned 9.. and we threw him an amazing race birthday party! As with all the boys other parties.. I bought a plain white cake from Wegmans and let D decorate it himself. We had a total of nine kids.. they picked bandanna's out of a bag to create 3 teams. First Task Not all the kids knew each other.. they were too amped up with the idea of winning that they couldn't manage to calm down and read the clue.. so we had to really guide them through it.. they made mistakes and we let it go.. it seemed a tad chaotic..  Second Task I had 33 little medicine cups filled with M&M's and Goldfish crackers.. 6 of them had stickers on the bottom. The first two teams found the sticker in the first try... what are the odds!? And the third team had to eat a lot of snacks before they finally found their sticker. Third Task I bought 48 piece puzzles from the Dollar Tree. The boys took their time making
