The Story Of Us

I have been in a bit of a book funk.. the last three books I read have been not so great. I am currently reading The Girl in the Mirror by Rose Carlyle .. I am a couple of chapters in but it seems promising.  We have started reading the third Harry Potter book, the Prisoned of Azkaban. The kids are enthralled by the series and try to negotiate extending their bedtime every night just to be able to hear a bit more.  Ever heard of an agamograph? I sat a long while trying to think of what to write about but with nowhere to go and nothing to do there is not much to share.  So while I don't use the blog to do a lot of blatant self promotion except for the occasional  Friday Photography posts, I am doing it now. H turned seven at the start of the year.. and with the current state of things there wasn't much of our usual celebrations. Happy New Year to you all!  Back to the grind.. today's our first day back to routine. The kids are still doing virtual school.. M is still working from home..  We had a nice winter break.. we went away for a couple of days.. we rented an Airbnb in Upstate New York. It was a very last minute decision so the pickings were slim but the place was clean and that was the most important part.  We picked Plattekill Mountain, a small mountain.. not too crowded. Drove up Saturday morning and in true 2020 fashion they were closed. They had a storm a day before and were still working on making fresh snow. We got no call or email.. the girl stated they post updates on their social.. oh well. We were in the middle of nowhere.. everything closed due to both Covid and it being Christmas weekend and our Airbnb not available till after 4pm. If it was a normal year we would be on a hot beach somewhere soaking up the sun.. but this has been no normal year.. We are keeping spirits high though.. the snow filled past week really help amp up the joy. We have a slopping backyard which comes in really handy when it snows.. we had some neighborhood kids stop by and sled down as well. Keeping with the holiday spirit we decided to make cookie decorating kits for our friends and neighbors. I baked over sixty sugar cookies, packed little baggies of sprinkles and made colorful icing.. I had a bunch of pastel food coloring so our icing looks less Christmasy and more Easterish.  I'm going to be taking a blogging break for the rest of the year..
