lately
I don't think I have done a lately post in a long while.. all my travel and book posts are done for now so what else has been happening? Lets see..
D is getting ready to wrap up 10th grade. Just a little under a month to go. AP exams done and then finals in less that a month. His Honors American Lit class read The Great Gatsby earlier in the year and last week they went to go watch Gatsby on Broadway. He said it was better than the book. lol
After joining high school and not allowed to participate in any contact sports he decided to take up bowling. In the past two years and after a lot of practice he is showing great improvement. In fact on Friday he entered his first tournament. He started with a ranking 21 among 24 fellow competitors and ended up in 3rd place. He even won some scholarship money!
H on the other hand played in his spring concert. He is also practicing and preparing to audition for the 7th grade wind ensemble. He is struggling a little.. his hands are too small to make smooth transition along the length of the clarinet.
He is also wrapping up with his spring basket league. He has a great team and coach and they are playing quite well.
H has always loved helping me in the kitchen and for the past few weeks he has been, with assistance making our Sunday dinners. Here he is making stuffed chicken breasts. He was prepping the breading when I took the photo. I wish I had taken a picture of his other meals or the end result of this one. But he is doing a good job.
This summer I plan on bringing D into the kitchen as well, learn some of the basics. Currently he can make eggs and boil pasta but I think he can learn a little more.
With all this busyness it was M who kept us most occupied.
My grandmother loved to clean.. my mother took after her and never was there anything extra in our house. She was always giving things away. And I have taken after her.. I may not love to clean but I have this need to get rid of things, donate, sell, whatever.. the less things I have the more content I feel. So while it was colder I went through the entire kitchen, we had done the basement a year or two ago when it had flooded and now that it had warmed up I had my eyes set on the garage.
It was a perfect day.. we emptied out the contents of the garage.. I was taking pictures of things to sell, making other piles for donation and just plain old garbage. Then M got out the leaf blower to blow out all the dust and whatever else. And no one is sure what happened exactly but M's finger slipped into the motor and well what happened was not good.. not good at all.
I have no pictures of this day.. but we ended up spending most of the day in the ER. He received 30 stitches, lost a nail and well.. it's been two weeks since and while recovery is going well, he is still in some pain and still months away from being able to use his finger. So send a little prayer his way.
So that's what we've been up to.

what a nice catch up of the doings in your home. I also like to thin out my belongings. After we moved here in 2021 and saw all the stuff I had to get rid of, I try to be more mindful of keeping 'stuff'.
ReplyDeleteSorry about M's finger. Sounds painful! It does feel good to clean stuff out!
ReplyDeleteYikes om M's finger! I hope it heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry 😞 about M's finger.
ReplyDeleteI love to clean, organize and declutter. Love your photos.
Oh, that accident sounds awful! Prayers for a speedy (and uncomplicated) recovery!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are insisting on D learning a bit more in the kitchen. They need to be able to do laundry as well. My younger daughter and my son are both good cooks, but my older daughter is hopeless in the kitchen.
Nice catchup so glad M is ok -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible accident -- I hope M heals quickly and that his pain goes away soon. Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteOh no! My Mom had a similar accident a couple of years ago. Hopefully he heals completely and quickly. Have a good week Hena.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I'm so sorry to hear about M's finger. I hope it heals fast.
ReplyDeleteYikes, what a terrible accident. I hope M heals up easily. Glad your sons are in the kitchen. Everyone should know how to cook.
ReplyDeleteThose stuffed chicken breasts look good, and when they're baked, even better. I'm glad your son is learning to cook. I'm sorry to hear what happened with the leaf blower. I hope he heals nicely, and I'm saying a prayer right now. It sounds like you got a lot done with clearing out, donating, and getting rid of things you no longer want or need. I like the pic of your son playing the clarinet. Both daughters played as well.
ReplyDeleteOh my that post was going so well. Great life update of late...and then 30 STITCHES!! Oh my. I do hope it is healing well. That just sounds horrid. Thankfully, we never had need of stitches when my kids were growing up. I'm not sure I can handle emergencies that require stitches!?!
ReplyDeleteA big Congrats to D for making such great progress in bowling. Wishing H all the best in getting into the band he wants. It is great that he likes to cook, his future wife will be thankful if they can share that :). Oh my goodness so sorry to her of your hubby's mistake with the blower, that is a lot of stitches so I imagine it would still hurt. Praying it will feel better very soon!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds a very nasty accident, time will of course heal it as we know but putting up with the pain and inconvenience along the way is not easy.
ReplyDeleteGood to read you are teaching one lad to cook and the other to follow soon, it's always handy if a male can cook.
Bowling is fun as is basketball.
Oh dear, your poor husband. Freak accidents happen in an instant. I do hope he heals quickly and well and the pain subsides.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to D on his bowling success! I love seeing H's culinary skills but am so sorry to hear about your husband's finger-- ouch! I hope he heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the ER visit. Praying for quick healing!

Both your children are like renaissance men ~ You parent so well ~ Congrats to all ~ I agree 'less is more' in the house ~ what an awesome family ~ namaste ^_^
ReplyDeleteOh no! Sending all good wishes that M has a full and speedy recovery. That had to be incredibly frightening. And how lovely to have a sous chef in your kitchen. He looks very accomplished. Between that and school, well, wow! I would love to have seen the Great Gatsby too! I hope this week is a bit better!
ReplyDeleteOuch, so sorry to hear about M's accident! Hope he'll get better quickly. Congrats to D on his bowling tournament though!
ReplyDeleteYAY for a great night bowling (I am definitely SO bad at that game) and sending speedy recovery wishes. Hope he heals well and has a smooth rehab period. Thanks so much for visiting my blog today!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the garage cleaning mishap. We cleaned hours a week ago and I've been sick ever since. I'm very allergic to dust. It never occurred to me to maybe wear a mask. Bravo to your bowler and your chef! They are good boys.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to catch up with you. The boys are growing up so fast.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh that the Broadway was better than the book. We read the Great Gatsby as a family. We watched both movies that have been made.
I am sending a prayer for M. May he have a speedy recovery and heal 100%!!

Wow Gatsby on Broadway would be fun to see. And congrats to your son for his success at the bowling tournament ... wow 3rd place! That's good. I'm glad both of them are doing well. The help in the kitchen and making dinner seems great too!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I am so sorry to hear about M's accident with his fingers. I hope they heal quickly. Thank you for an enjoyable read, well, except for M's accident that is. Have a very happy continued good week.
ReplyDeleteI bet those stuffed chicken breasts were tasty and what a nice helper! My kids have been out of school for almost a month, but they go back in early August.

What a busy season for your family! Congrats to D on his bowling tournament success and scholarship win. That’s amazing! I’m so sorry to hear about M’s injury though. Sending prayers for continued healing and recovery.
ReplyDeleteOh no, sorry about the accident! I hope M is ok.
ReplyDeleteLovely catch-up about the children but so sorry to hear about the accident. My nephew had an unfortunate encounter with a commercial wood grinding machine. It took a while to heal, but he got back to full functionality eventually.
ReplyDeleteOh no, a mangled finger may take a long while to heal and the nerves to get back to normal functioning, and I hope everything heals OK. I'm glad you aren't shooing H out of the kitchen but, instead, are encouraging his skills. Keep up the good work! My late mother in law always chased my husband out of the kitchen (this, of course, was many years ago when he was young) but he self-learned cooking, and did she ever appreciated his cooking as she grew older.
ReplyDeletePrayers and congratulations for all
ReplyDeleteHands will adjust to get those keys just right.

I am sorry to hear about M and the accident with his finger, sending healing prayers.
ReplyDeleteH and D seem to be doing well. It is great to see H helping out with the cooking, boys should help with daily chores. Take care, have a great day!
Who knew a leaf blower could cause such problems? I hope he heals quickly and completely. I'm glad your sons are enjoying the activities they are participating in.
ReplyDeleteHow is D almost finished with 10th grade? Time goes by too quickly. I love that H is enjoying cooking. I think it is so awesome to teach them both the basics at least. SO sorry to hear about M. That sounds dreadful. I will keep you all in my prayers. Enjoy the rest of Spring, it is going quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm sorry about M's finger. I hope he heals quickly!
ReplyDeleteWonderful updates! Cooking skills are wonderful to have. :D
ReplyDeleteYay for D & H! Terrible about M. Wishing him a speedy recovery and less and less pain!
ReplyDeleteScary about his finger. Hope it's ok. I saw The Great Gatsby on Broadway a few years ago. I enjoyed it. Nice that your son enjoys cooking. It's a good skill for him .
ReplyDeleteYikes! I hope his finger heals back to 100% soon!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the accident. Broadway seems fun :)

So nice to catch up on all your news. I did a big declutter but clutter has been creeping back in. Darn that love of shopping.

great to have "assistance" in the kitchen..... the work will be smooth.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day
Watching D jump from a 21st ranking straight to 3rd place in his very first bowling tournament is an absolute stellar achievement, especially with scholarship money to boot. It is so special that H is taking over Sunday dinners, and learning how to stuff a chicken breast is a pretty impressive culinary step up from basic survival cooking.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a couple of great kids, and they keep you busy!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awful. I hope he’s ok. I didn’t like the book of Great Gatsby much either. I’m the opposite, I’m very bad at getting rid of things, unlike my mum who is constantly getting rid of stuff xx
ReplyDeleteThank you for the catch-up news but sorry about M, sending healing thoughts and good wishes.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I'm sure the musical was more entertaining than the book..haha. I didn't know they made the book into a musical, but that is a good idea. I can just imagine the dancing and costumes. Sorry to hear about M's accident. That's great you have a child who wants to help with the cooking. I wish I had some help. I also like to declutter.
ReplyDeleteThere's so much going on, I don't even know where to start! First, here's to a speedy recovery for M!
ReplyDeleteGatsby was one of my most favorite books in high school and typically I am hesitent when something I love so much is turned into a movie or tv show or musical, but I could absolutely get behind Gatsby on Broadway. I can just imagine the costumes!!
Hope your boys have a great end to their school years and can't wait to see what adventures you get up to this summer!
Congrats on D on placing third! And I taught my kids to cook from the age of eight.
